Dangerous "balloon bombs"
The diameter of the abdominal aorta under the normal kidney is 1.5~2.0 cm, which is responsible for transporting oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood to various organs and lower limbs in the abdomen. If the abdominal aorta is subjected to huge intravascular pressure throughout the year, if it is combined with factors such as hypertension, atherosclerosis or degeneration of the blood vessel wall, resulting in the local strength of the abdominal aortic wall weakening, the artery will be like blowing up a balloon, and the expansion of more than 50% will become an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
Abdominal aortic aneurysm is not a tumor, but only expands like a tumor, and is a benign disease, but its harm is no less than that of a tumor.
When the abdominal aortic aneurysm ruptures, a large amount of blood gushes out in a short period of time, causing the patient to bleed heavily, and in severe cases, it is life-threatening. Elderly and smokers should be vigilant
With the aging of the Chinese population and the continuous updating of examination methods, the incidence of abdominal aortic aneurysm has increased year by year, which is more common in elderly men, and the ratio of men to women is 10:3, especially for smokers, abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture is its fatal complication.
Patients with acute abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture often present with a "triad":( 1) severe abdominal pain or low back pain, (2) hypotension or even shock, and (3) abdominal pulsatile mass. Once the abdominal aortic aneurysm ruptures, the case fatality rate is 31%~70%.
These people should be screened regularly
A ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm is an extremely dangerous and critical illness, and patients often suffer from hemorrhagic shock or even death before presentation. Therefore, early screening, early diagnosis, and early treatment are very important!
(1) High-risk groups. People aged 65 years and older who have a history of smoking, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and especially angina pectoris or arteriosclerosis.
(2) Touch the abdomen. If you feel a pulsatile mass in or around the upper left side of your navel with your hand, you may have an abdominal aortic aneurysm, and you should go to your local hospital for a color Doppler ultrasonography to confirm the diagnosis.
(3) Regular screening. Patients with hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, history of smoking, kidney disease, and familial genetic disorders (e.g., Marfan syndrome) are all high-risk groups, and abdominal aortic Doppler ultrasound screening should be done during annual physical examination.
After the abdominal aortic aneurysm is found, it should be immediately treated in a qualified hospital to determine the treatment plan, and minimally invasive endovascular repair can achieve good long-term treatment results.
