Community planners create a shared gardening space

author:Yangpu, Shanghai

The garden house built in the thirties of the last century has now reached the "year of mackerel". Recently, the new project "Citizen Horticulture Center" of Dai Daixin, a community planner of Dinghai Road Street and an associate professor of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University, has been successfully implemented. The old-fashioned garden house in Lane 3061 of Yangshupu Road was tailor-made and officially entered the base camp of the "15-minute community life circle".

Walking into the community of Lane 3061 of Yangshupu Road, what catches your eye is the old townhouse. Some are detached houses with greenery in the garden in front of the courtyard, while others are shared by several families and the neighbors decorate their homes together. In front of the Community Good Neighbor Center, the reporter saw that the retro lattice floor tiles had replaced the original cement floor, and the scattered potted plants were planned in a unified manner and arranged in an orderly manner on the wrought iron frame...... After understanding, this is a "fragrant corner" created by the planner for the residents, which not only makes a home for the originally scattered green plants, but also allows the aroma of plants to bring people a healing effect on the body and mind.

The design concept of the project is "suitable for aging, healing, and entropy reduction". Every detail of the design is designed with this community in mind. Xiong Yu, a member of Professor Dai Daixin's studio at Tongji University, said, "We have laid some pebbles in the drainage ditch and made some decorations, and the greenery on the street corners has been created to act as a rain garden to store water and at the same time to drain the water." In addition, in terms of design, the project focuses on concepts such as "no waste" and "sustainability". Through minor updates, these ideas are radiated to the entire community.

In the community of Lane 3061 of Yangshupu Road, more than 60% of the elderly population is over 60 years old, and most of them are retirees. For Mr. Chen Jialin, he grew up here since he was a child, and this deep affection for his homeland made him reluctant to move away. Seeing the continuous renewal of the community, old friends like him also smiled.

"The team made use of the inconspicuous places and did some graffiti, which gave them a feeling of 'changing the old for a new look'. In the past, flowers and plants were added to the overgrown weeds, which was pleasing to the eye. The teachers and students of Tongji University also gave us lessons and taught us how to take care of the flowers and plants. Chen Jialin said.

To build a livable community, the core idea is that everyone should participate. The design, planning, and implementation of the entire horticultural center, with the wishes and ideas of the community residents, are involved in the whole process. In order to keep the garden center alive for a long time, the "Healing Corridor" and "Healing Vegetable Garden" areas have been deliberately set up with a lot of white space. There are only wrought iron climbing frames and small wooden stakes on site, which are decorated by the residents themselves, which can be used for vertical greening and planting vegetables and fruits.

Xiao Yijie, a member of the studio, said that the blank space is to hope that the residents will participate together, "fill all the blank space, plant some flowers and plants, let everyone connect together, and carry out some activities in the future." For example, popular science lectures, small markets, love exchanges, etc., can be carried out based on this garden. If you plant some vines underneath, by the time the summer comes, it will be green. ”

Qian Fang, secretary of the general party branch of the second residential area of 17 cotton, said that residents have planted wolfberries, grapes, spinach and other plants, and hopes that these harvests will bring joy to community residents, especially the elderly who are lonely and widowed, in the future. "At first, before the construction of the horticultural center, some residents were not optimistic and felt that it was not worth spending so much effort on renovation. But after the project landed, they were surprised and praised and recognized. ”

Let a corner of the community be transformed into an autonomous stage that carries community memories, promotes community integration, and shares and exchanges gardening, and the creation of the horticultural center has sent "gifts" to the hearts of residents. In the future, this horticultural space will be full of hope and fruits, and become a "back garden" for residents. In Yangpu, the radius of the "15-minute community life circle" is constantly expanding, and residents' sense of gain, happiness and security is becoming more visible and tangible.
