After Zhuge Liang's death, Liu Chan ordered an inventory of his family property, and angrily smashed the cup on the spot

author:Yan Ling【Special Topic】

It is said that after Liu Chan copied Zhuge Liang's home, he got the so-called list of copying his home, and then he angrily dropped the cup on the spot.

But it should be noted that Liu Chan's liquidation of Zhuge Liang's family is completely made up by later generations, and there is no evidence and historical data to prove that Liu Chan did this.

Why do you say that? Because Liu Chan has no motive and no need.

Many people believe that Zhuge Liang held the power of Shu Han alone after Liu Bei Tuogu, and then the lord Liu Chan became a "puppet" emperor because of his dull qualifications and lack of ability.

After Zhuge Liang's death, Liu Chan ordered an inventory of his family property, and angrily smashed the cup on the spot

This theory is supported by the following points:

First, when Liu Chan ascended the throne, he was only seventeen years old, although seventeen years old was not too young in ancient times, Sun Ce of Jiangdong had escorted his father's body home at the age of 17, but Liu Chan was not Sun Ce, he was just a young man with mediocre qualifications.

It is precisely because of this that after Liu Chan took over the scepter of Shu Han, he chose "the government rules Ge clan, and the sacrifice is made by the widow".

There are two reasons why Liu Chan chose this way, one is that his father Liu Bei took his hand and solemnly explained before he died, asking him to "engage in work with the prime minister and do things like his father".

Liu Bei's meaning is very simple, he wants his son Liu Chan to treat Zhuge Liang like himself.

Another reason is that Liu Chan has no choice, his father has already entrusted the power of Shu Han to the "Xiangfu", and even promised Zhuge Liang that "the heir can be supplemented, supplemented; if he is not talented, the king can take it for himself".

Therefore, after the young Liu Chan ascended the throne, all he could do was "but rely on his father".

Based on the above two points, some people in later generations believe that Liu Chan is clearly a "puppet", and Shu Han has not been surnamed Liu since Liu Bei's death, but Zhuge is the world.

In addition, what Zhuge Liang did after Liu Chan ascended the throne is also one of the reasons.

Needless to say, there have been several Northern Expeditions, and Zhuge Liang has to meddle in the matter of "a hundred people entering the palace", as well as his role as the pastor of Yizhou, and even Liu Chan's marriage to his daughter-in-law.

In short, Zhuge Liang's actions, in the eyes of many people, clearly regarded Liu Chan as a puppet.

In view of this, some people "treat others with themselves", thinking that Liu Chan had a stomach full of resentment when Zhuge Liang was alive, and as soon as Zhuge Liang died, Liu Chan was busy liquidating him, so as to vent the hatred in his heart.

After Zhuge Liang's death, Liu Chan ordered an inventory of his family property, and angrily smashed the cup on the spot

The most direct evidence of this theory is the two things that Liu Chan did after Zhuge Liang's death.

The first is to prohibit Shu officials from mourning Zhuge Liang.

Liu Chan forbade officials to give Zhuge Liang a funeral, which is indeed recorded in the historical materials, at that time, Qian Zhou, who was idle at home, heard the news of Zhuge Liang's death, and went to mourn as soon as possible, but as soon as he finished mourning, Liu Chan issued an edict prohibiting the minister from going to the funeral.

Liang died in the enemy court, Zhou heard at home, even if he went and found an edict to prohibit it, but Zhou was able to reach it quickly. --- "Romance of the Three Kingdoms: The Biography of the Zhou Dynasty"

The second thing is not to agree to build a temple for Zhuge Liang.

After Zhuge Liang's death, many officials and people in Shu wrote to Zhuge Liang to request a temple for Zhuge Liang, but Liu Chan rejected all of them on the grounds that it violated the etiquette system.

For this reason, the people of Shu can only take advantage of the four solar terms to secretly pay tribute to Zhuge Liang on the side of the road.

"Liang Chu died, where each sought to build a temple, the court did not listen to the etiquette, and the people sacrificed to Daomo because of the season. --- "The Legend of Xiangyang"

It is these two points that make many people think that Liu Chan did this to vent his grievances, and secondly, to eliminate the influence of Zhuge Liang, so as to establish his authority in Shu.

In view of this, there is a bridge section where Liu Chan raided Zhuge Liang's house and liquidated him as soon as he died, the purpose of which is to prove Liu Chan's "revenge" after "liberating his nature".

So, is Liu Chan really full of hatred for Zhuge Liang? I don't think so.

Let's talk about the liquidation of the family first, as mentioned above, there is no evidence and historical data to show that Liu Chan has done this, and he cannot and will not do it.

Why? Because raiding a house is not an easy task.

When we watch some costume film and television dramas, we often see that a certain minister was ordered by the emperor to raid his house because he angered the emperor, and with the emperor's order, a group of wolf-like officers and soldiers rushed to the official's house with great momentum.

After that, there are all kinds of chickens flying and dogs jumping, crying and crying.

But I tell you very responsibly that the ancient copying of the family was not copied like this, at least, it would not be the emperor who immediately carried out the copying of the house as soon as he gave the order.

Generally speaking, in order to liquidate a high-ranking minister, several things need to be done first, the first is to clean up the personnel relations left by the minister, that is, the so-called "cutting off the party henchmen", and remove the minister's former protégé from the old party, who should be transferred, and remove those who should be dismissed.

The reason why we have to do this step first is because if we don't make these intricate relationships clear, it will be in the next liquidation action, so it will be turbulent, which will threaten the public opinion of the court and affect stability.

Only when the relationship with the convicted minister is cleared will the next step be carried out without interference.

After that, it is to deprive the official position, take back the title, and finally confiscate the family property, and arrest the family members and other related people to prison, this is a complete process of raiding the family.

Not to mention, it is the period of Emperor Xuan of the Western Han Dynasty who is closer to the Three Kingdoms, and the powerful minister Huo Guang was accused of rebellion after his death, and Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty followed this process when he disposed of it.

Not that the process was good, but that it had to be done, including in several dynasties after the Three Kingdoms.

After Zhuge Liang's death, Liu Chan ordered an inventory of his family property, and angrily smashed the cup on the spot

After talking about how to raid the house, and then looking back at Liu Chan, he has never done anything like this to Zhuge Liang from beginning to end, so there is no way to talk about liquidating Zhuge Liang.

The most favorable evidence is Zhuge Liang's son Zhuge Zhan, who was raised by Liu Chan.

When Zhuge Liang died, Zhuge Zhan was seven or eight years old, still a young child, and Liu Chan was duty-bound to cultivate Zhuge Zhan, and when Zhuge Zhan was seventeen years old, Liu Chan also married his daughter to him.

In other words, Liu Chan is Zhuge Zhan's father-in-law.

If Liu Chan wants to liquidate Zhuge Liang, why would he love Zhuge Zhan so much, not only cultivating him wholeheartedly, but also marrying his daughter to him, which is unreasonable.

Zhang Juzheng in the Ming Dynasty made a great contribution to the imperial court, but after his death, what did Wanli do? He almost opened Zhang Juzheng's coffin and whipped his corpse, and Zhang Juzheng's family either committed suicide or starved to death, and the exile ended well.

But this method, Liu Chan did not use it on Zhuge Liang.

And, after Zhuge Zhan married the princess, Liu Chan arranged for him to take up an official position, starting from the age of eighteen as the general of Yulin Zhonglang, all the way to the line of fire, to the age of thirty-five, he has been an official to the capital guard general, and with the auxiliary general Dong Ju to jointly take charge of Shangshutai government affairs and lead state affairs.

What kind of concept is this, it is completely the concept of cultivating and promoting Zhuge Zhan as his own son.

If Liu Chan is full of hatred for Zhuge Liang and has the heart to liquidate, his cultivation of Zhuge Zhan in this way is completely contrary to his own philosophy, therefore, it can be concluded that Liu Chan never thought of liquidating the "Xiang Father" from beginning to end.

As for Liu Chan's prohibition of officials from running to funerals and disagreeing to build a temple for Zhuge Liang, there is also a certain reason.

After Zhuge Liang's death, Liu Chan ordered an inventory of his family property, and angrily smashed the cup on the spot

When Zhuge Liang died, his position was Yizhou Mu, that is, the highest governor of Yizhou, and the big and small officials in Yizhou, in terms of administrative level, were all Zhuge Liang's subordinates.

In the Han Dynasty, there was such a saying, called "dualistic monarch and minister view".

To explain it in layman's terms, the relationship between the monarch and the minister in the Han Dynasty was divided into two layers, the first was the relationship between the emperor and the subjects of the world, and the other was the relationship between the "lords" like Liu Bei and Sun Quan and the officials under their jurisdiction.

The emperor of the Han Dynasty was a monarch, but people like Liu Bei and Sun Quan were also monarchs, the difference is that the emperor of the Han Dynasty came first, and Liu Bei and others came later.

But no matter who comes first, legally speaking, Liu Bei's subordinates are not only Liu Bei's courtiers, but also the courtiers of the Han Dynasty.

This is called the "dualistic view of monarchs and ministers", so what does this have to do with Zhuge Liang?

As mentioned above, Zhuge Liang served as the pastor of Yizhou when he died, and for the officials of Yizhou, Zhuge Liang was the monarch (refer to Liu Bei's Yizhou pastor), and the two sides belonged to the relationship between the monarch and the minister, and when the monarch died, as a courtier, he had to go to mourn.

This is why Qian Zhou, who has always disagreed with Zhuge Liang in politics, why Ma Yuer ran to mourn Zhuge Liang, because his position at that time was to persuade Yizhou to engage in education, and he was a veritable Yizhou official, and he had to go to Yu Lifa.

Of course, if only the officials of Yizhou mourned, the key is that Zhuge Liang did not only serve as the pastor of Yizhou during his lifetime, but he also served as the prime minister and Shang Shushi of Shu Han.

And according to the etiquette law, Zhuge Liang, who held so many official positions, died, so almost all the officials of Shu came to mourn Zhuge Liang.

Liu Bei died, and it is understandable that Shu State condolence, but no matter what Zhuge Liang says, he is a courtier, and if he makes such a battle, the consequences can be imagined.

And this point, Zhuge Liang had already thought of before his death, in order not to exceed the courtesy of the monarch and ministers, he had already confessed to the thin burial after his death.

Liang said from the back of the table: "Chengdu has 800 mulberry trees, 15 acres of thin fields, and the children have food and clothing, and they have their own surplus." As for the ministers in the field, there is no other arrangement, and they carry food and clothing, and they all rely on the officials, and they do not manage their lives, but they are long in size. If the minister dies, he will not let there be any surplus silk inside, and no wealth will be won outside, so as to lose His Majesty. --- "Three Kingdoms: The Biography of Zhuge Liang"

With Zhuge Liang's explanation, Liu Chan, who has always been obedient to the "father", naturally did not dare to disobey his will, and at the same time, in order to fulfill Zhuge Liang's wishes, it was forbidden for Shu officials to carry out large-scale condolence activities.

After Zhuge Liang's death, Liu Chan ordered an inventory of his family property, and angrily smashed the cup on the spot

did not agree to build a temple for Zhuge Liang, because of the consideration of the situation at that time.

We all know that Zhuge Liang is very famous among the people, not only in modern times, but also in the original Shu Han, and even more so, the love of the Shu Han army and people for him has reached a very high level.

If a temple is built for him, then the incense will definitely be quite vigorous.

But don't forget, at that time, in Chengdu, the base of Shu Han, Liu Bei's Taimiao was there, and in this Taimiao, the emperors of the two Han Dynasty were also enshrined (because Liu Bei regarded himself as a descendant of the Han family).

If Zhuge Liang's temple is erected in Chengdu, then the Shu Han army and people will worship Zhuge Liang in large numbers, and at that time, Liu Bei, as the actual emperor, and the temples of the Han emperors will be relatively deserted.

Such a scene is embarrassing to think about, and it is really inappropriate from the perspective of the way of the monarch and the minister.

Moreover, under the circumstance that all the people worship Zhuge Liang, as the emperor, Liu Chan, will he go or not? It can be said that it will be embarrassing to go, and it will be embarrassing not to go.

In order to avoid this situation, he would not agree to build a temple for Zhuge Liang, and when Zhongshulang proposed to Chong and others to set up a ancestral hall for Zhuge Liang in Chuyang, Liu Chan readily agreed.

"If you do your best to follow the people's wishes, you will be blasphemous and have no canon, build the Beijing master, and force the temple, this holy heart is so doubtful. The ministers thought that it was appropriate to set it up in the sun because of their proximity to their tombs, so that the relatives could give sacrifices at the right time... To worship righteousness. And so it began. --- "The Legend of Xiangyang"

Some people may think that Liu Chan's concerns are a bit unfounded, not to mention anything else, just look at today's Chengdu Wuhou Temple, you know, Chengdu's Wuhou Temple, in fact, the official name is "Han Zhaolie Temple", who is Zhaolie? It is Liu Bei, that is to say, this is Liu Bei's temple.

But because Zhuge Liang is too famous, most people will call this place Wuhou Temple.

After Zhuge Liang's death, Liu Chan ordered an inventory of his family property, and angrily smashed the cup on the spot

Back to the topic, to sum up, Liu Chan has never liquidated Zhuge Liang, nor has he copied his home, after all, the weight of his father in his heart is too important, and as far as Zhuge Liang's pitiful personal property is concerned, there is really nothing to copy.
