The Table Tennis Singles World Cup, which will be restarted in 2024, has the same name as before, but the format is completely different.
First of all, the number of participants has increased from the original 16 to 48; secondly, the previous World Cup was a best-of-seven system, but now the group stage is played in four games, and the best-of-seven system is adopted after the round of 16; and the number of participants in each association, the previous maximum of two players participated, now it is four, and the defending champion and the champion of the U19 group of the World Youth Championship automatically qualify for the tournament and do not occupy the association quota. Finally, the singles World Cup, the World Championships, and the Olympic Games were previously called the "three major tournaments", but with the restructuring of the World Table Tennis Federation (WTT), the status of the singles World Cup has long been replaced by the "WTT Grand Slam". At present, in all the ITTF events, the singles champions of the Olympic Games, the World Championships and the WTT Grand Slam have 2,000 championship points, while this year's Macau singles World Cup champions only have 1,500 points.
