The new generation of Toyota 4Runner, we call it Speedmaster in China, is really unveiled this time. Master Jiao believes that there should be many friends in China waiting for it. The biggest change in the new car is the powertrain, the old V6 engine is gone, replaced by a 2.4T hybrid system. In addition, the exterior of the new car is available in three styles, including the normal look, the more rigid Trailhunter version, and the more business-oriented Platinum version, depending on the configuration.

It's time to say goodbye to the 4.0L V6! The new generation of 4Runner uses a 2.4T four-cylinder turbocharged engine as the power source, of which the TRD Pro, Trailhunter and Platinum are configured as hybrid systems, with a comprehensive system horsepower of 326hp and a comprehensive torque of 630N.m, all of which are matched with 8AT transmissions.
The new generation model focuses more on off-road performance. After 6 generations of evolution, the 4Runner non-load-bearing body structure has been retained, but the new generation structural frame is more modern. The new car is based on Toyota's TNGA-F platform and shares the platform with the next-generation Land Patrol, Lexus GX, New Sequoia, Tacoma and Tantu pickups, with a maximum towing mass of 6,000 pounds.
Like the older model, the entry-level model is rear-wheel drive, but you can opt for a full-time all-wheel drive system. The difference is that the all-wheel drive system of the new generation model has many more electronic functions, with a limited-slip differential on the rear axle of the base model and a rear axle differential lock for the mid-to-high-spec variants. Confusingly, only the business-looking Platinum variant is equipped with a centre differential, and the Limited is only available as an option.
In terms of suspension, the new generation model still adopts the front double wishbone independent suspension and the rear integral axle suspension structure, of which the TRD Pro version adopts FOX diameter 2.5 inches with air reservoir shock absorbers to enhance suspension performance
In addition, the Trailhunter version is a new configuration, and this version of the off-road modification is more hardcore. The chassis is fitted with 2.5-inch forged ARB steel plates that extend from the front bar to the center rear, and the wheels are powered by 33-inch Toyo Open Country AT tires with a 2-inch (51mm) higher suspension than the regular version. This results in a 234 mm ground clearance and a 32-degree approach and 24-degree departure angle. This configuration also features a chassis stabiliser bar disconnect function that further stretches the suspension and allows the tyres to be in contact with the ground as much as possible.
Finally, a few words about the exterior and interior design. The old 4Runner looks good. The exterior design of this new generation model is actually a continuation of the Tacoma's family-style design. The non-off-road version has a huge spoiler under the front bumper, which can be removed, but it will increase fuel consumption after you remove it, so it's ugly. The highlight of the rear is the rear window, which can be lowered into the tailgate when used to transport longer cargo. Master Jiao felt that he didn't need to lift the tailgate to use it as a shooting car.
The Trailhunter and TRD Pro versions feature a 10,000-lumen LED bar on the front bumper, which is twice as bright as the Tundra and Sequoia.
The interior instrument cluster is basically the same as that of the Tacoma pickup, and the center console is available in 8-inch or 14-inch depending on the configuration. The basic version of the instrument screen is 7 inches, and the high configuration can be upgraded to 12.3 inches. The interior trim parts are all hard plastic in the base model, with some upholstered leather on the higher-spec variants, while the Platinum version focuses more on road comfort and heated front and rear seats. The Trailhunter is off-road, with a 2400W inverter in the car.
