On April 9, a delegation from the local government and universities of Leuven, Belgium came to Xixi for inspection.
Mayor Zhao Jianjun met with Leeline Vadella, Vice Mayor of Leuven, and the two sides had in-depth exchanges and discussed cooperation in the fields of scientific and technological innovation, industrial integration, education and humanities. Patricia Spicemester, Director of the Economic and Trade Bureau of Leuven, Wim Dewulf, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of KU Leuven, and Qin Yongxin, Deputy Mayor of KU Leuven, attended the meeting.
Zhao Jianjun thanked the Leuven Municipal Government, the University of Leuven and relevant Belgian enterprises for their long-term care and support for the development of Wuxi, and briefly introduced the economic and social development of Wuxi in recent years.
He said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of an all-round friendly and cooperative partnership between China and Belgium, and is also the ninth year of friendly exchanges between Wuxi and Leuven. It is hoped that the two sides will take this as a new starting point and expand more cooperation space at a higher level. Further strengthen the interaction of industrial science and technology innovation, build and make good use of the Leuven (Wuxi) Innovation Center, actively promote the construction of Leuven Innovation Center in Xi, and better promote the flow of innovative elements and industrial collaboration between the two cities in the fields of integrated circuits, Internet of Things, biomedicine, etc.; We will continue to expand the scale of cooperative talent training, promote the efficient transformation of scientific research achievements, better serve the local economic and social development, and better contribute to the internationalization of higher education in Wuxi, further build a broad humanistic consensus, give full play to the role of "stabilizer" and "glue" of people-to-people exchanges, carry forward the international humanitarian spirit of Ms. Qian Xiuling, actively organize various forms of cultural activities, and continuously expand two-way tourism and international student exchanges, so that the people of the two places can become closer and deeper and deeper. Wuxi will continue to create a market-oriented, law-based, international, first-class business environment, and build a good platform and a stage for excellence in promoting international cooperation and friendly exchanges.
Leilin Vadla thanked Wuxi for its concern and support for the development of Belgian and especially Leuven enterprises in tin.
She said that since the two cities launched exchanges, they have achieved fruitful cooperation results in the fields of scientific and technological innovation, talent training, and cultural exchanges. During this visit, I really felt that Wuxi has a solid industrial foundation, a strong atmosphere of scientific and technological innovation, and a superior ecological environment, and is a vibrant, livable and business-friendly city. Leuven is also an international and open city, an innovation hub in Europe, and has unique advantages in terms of ecological priority and green development, which has many similarities with Wuxi's urban characteristics. It is hoped that through this inspection, we will further expand the cooperation space with Wuxi in the fields of science and technology, industry, humanities, education, etc., actively promote close exchanges between personnel and effective docking of enterprises, strive to find more development points and growth points, work together to achieve greater mutual benefit and win-win results, and make new contributions to promoting the friendship between the two cities to a new level.
