In March 2024, the growth of new car sales in Turkey slowed down. Sales increased by 5.7% year-on-year to 109,828 units, close to 110,000 units. The decline in growth is estimated to be related to the high base of sales in the same period of '23.

For reference,

  • 79,701 units sold in Jan '24, up 56.6% year-on-year
  • Feb'24 sales of 105,990 units, up 30.6% year-on-year

Many Chinese brands have entered the Turkish market. There are two running out so far. Chery performed very well. The year-on-year increase was 855.6%, and the sales volume reached 6,011 units. Climb up 3 levels and stand in sixth place. Ranked higher than Volkswagen and Toyota!

MG is one of two Chinese brands in the top 20. The year-on-year increase was 467.2%, and the sales volume increased more than fourfold. Sales reached 3,233 units. The ranking moved up 2 notches to 13th place.

Other Chinese brands are:

  • BYD fell one notch to 30th place, with 175 units sold
  • Thalys rose one notch to 35th place, with 101 units sold, down 7.3% year-on-year
  • Skyworth's ranking fell by 1 level to 39th, with sales of 38 units, down 60.0% year-on-year
  • Nezha fell three notches to 42nd place, with 29 units sold
  • SAIC Maxus fell one notch to 43rd place, with 23 units sold
  • The leader fell one notch to 44th with 19 units sold

As in February, Fiat and Renault are still in first and second place. Although Fiat is still the first brother, it fell 28.4% year-on-year. The sales volume was 14,699 units, with a market share of 13.4%. Failed to exceed the 2023 level of 15.7%. Renault soared 60% year-on-year, with sales reaching 13,155 units.

Although Ford fell 25.9% year-on-year, it rose one notch from February. It ranked third with 8,324 units sold. Peugeot's performance is similar to that of Ford. It ranked fifth with 6,785 units sold.

Mercedes-Benz is one of the few German brands to record growth. The year-on-year growth rate reached 79.4%, an increase of nearly 8 percent, and the performance was outstanding. Volkswagen, Skoda, BMW and Audi did not perform well. The decline is more than 2%. Audi even fell by 44.2%.

Among the 10 best-selling models, Chery accounted for two. The Tiggo 7 Pro sold 2,387 units, up 14 notches from February and in sixth place. The Tiggo 8 Pro sold 2,210 units, down two notches to ninth place.

Other Chinese models that performed well were:

  • MG HS moved up 12 notches to 11th place, with 2,168 units sold
  • The Chery Omenda 5 dropped five notches to 16th place, with 1,414 units sold
  • The MG ZS ranked 35th with 667 units sold

Fiat and Renault dominate the top four selling models. The Fiat Egea sedan was the best-seller, with sales reaching 5,640 units. The Renault car Clio ranked second, also with more than 5,000 sales. The Megane sedan came in third place with 3,416 units sold.
