As one of the four traditional immigration countries and a country with diplomatic relations with Australia, New Zealand's welfare, education, and living environment are not inferior to those of the United States, Canada and Australia.
For many years, New Zealand's immigration program has been less high-profile because of its relatively small quota and relatively small population, and the permanent return visa is unique after all.
In the 2022~2023 fiscal year, New Zealand will reform the skilled immigration category (SMC), in order to find more high-skilled talents, completely change the original EOI scoring system similar to Australia, simplify the complex points making process, and launch two very friendly immigration programs: green list rapid immigration and six-point skilled immigration.
The six-point system directly targets the original skilled immigration category, but makes it easier and more convenient to make up the scores, while the green list directly provides applicants with an employer-sponsored fast immigration pathway.
In this issue, immigration lawyers give you an overview of New Zealand's Green List immigration program. The Green List is a shortage occupation list issued by Immigration New Zealand in 2022 to attract more shortage jobs and highly skilled professionals.
There are a total of 191 positions on the Green List job list, of which 156 positions can directly apply for residency (Tier 1), and the remaining 35 positions (Tier 2) can apply for a residence visa after 2 years of work, so as to encourage professional workers in various industries to settle in New Zealand.
Therefore, the green list is currently the fastest channel for immigration in New Zealand, and in layman's terms, the green list (Tier 1) first gets New Zealand RV permanent residence (Resident Visa), and the 6-point system is to get a work permit first and then transfer to RV, and doctoral degree or above can be applied at the same time.
Tier 1 STR 直接居留通道
The requirements for applicants under the Direct Residency Pathway for Greenlisted occupations (such as construction, engineering, healthcare, scientific research, and ICT-related occupations) are as follows:
- Age 55 and below;
- The language requirement is IELTS 6.5 or equivalent (exemption may be possible);
- Have a New Zealand Certified Employer or have worked for a New Zealand Certified Employer;
- Engage in a position on the Category 1 list and the corresponding academic experience or registration requirements;
- Hold a full-time (at least 30 hours per week) bona fide, permanent or at least 12-month contract of employment;
- meet the health and character requirements to meet the residency criteria;
Tier 2 WTR Work-to-Residence Pathway
The requirements for applicants under the Green List Occupation Work to Residence Stream are as follows:
- Age 55 and below;
- The language requirement is IELTS 6.5 or equivalent (exemption may be possible);
- Have worked for a New Zealand certified employer for 2 years (at least 30 hours per week)
- Engage in positions on the Category II list and the corresponding academic experience or registration requirements;
- meet the health and character requirements to meet the residency criteria;
In general, applicants should first confirm whether their position is on the Green List (Tier 1/Tier 2) and then check whether they meet the application criteria:
