Why Langya丨Tianze Wood Culture Museum: Intangible cultural heritage skills awaken the thousand-year-old wood culture

Editor's note: Culture rejuvenates the country and prospers, culture is strong and the nation is strong. While the public cultural facilities are becoming more and more perfect, the construction of the Linyi Civic Museum, the Special Exhibition Hall and the Village History Museum is in the ascendant, which has become a brilliant development of culture and tourism. These pavilions scattered among the mountains and rivers of Mengshan are large or small, and the history of the collection is long or short, but they are all-encompassing and have their own characteristics, which is a powerful footnote to Linyi's rich cultural heritage. From now on, the financial media of the newspaper will open a column of "Why Langya" to take you to appreciate the style of Linyi folk collection by all-media means.

In Linyi client news, "This work is called 'All Hearts Return', which was created in 2021 to celebrate the centenary of the party, and we used the carved wood panels in the collection to spread the pattern. On the morning of March 31, Jiang Kaifeng, director of the Linyi Tianzemu Cultural Museum, introduced the works to reporters.

From a distance, a party emblem in the center of the work is particularly eye-catching, and up close, this shape is made up of 56 pomegranate patterns of different sizes and shapes, about 90 centimeters long and 80 centimeters wide, surrounded by 100 flying birds. Jiang Kaifeng said: This means that the people of all nationalities throughout the country are closely united around the CPC.

Jiang Kaifeng is sorting out the carved wooden boards in the museum's collection.

Jiang Kaifeng, 55, is a native of Zaoyuan. From April 2002 to June 2010, he ran timber mills in Laos and Myanmar. Since he is already in business, what is the reason for him to pay out of his own pocket to open a museum that is open to the public for free?

"During my time running a lumber mill, I traveled to 48 timber producing areas around the world, and I was fascinated by the culture of rare wood and ancient wooden furniture. I also hope that through my own efforts, the wood culture that has lasted for thousands of years will be passed on. In 2014, Jiang Kaifeng registered and established the city's first non-state-owned folk museum in his hometown - Linyi Tianze Wood Culture Museum, which opened the road of promoting wood culture.

Bamboo fossils, golden silk nanmu circle chairs, arhat beds, chaise longues...... The museum has a large collection, and the 13,000-square-meter building is even a little crowded. Following Jiang Kaifeng's explanation, the reporter appreciated them one by one. The most attractive thing is the pattern carved into the wooden furniture.

Jiang Kaifeng (first from right) introduced the collection to the visiting delegation.

"Every pattern has a profound meaning behind it. Jiang Kaifeng casually pointed to a bed and introduced, "This is the bed of Zhang Pengxi's family, he is a Qing official in the Qing Dynasty." ”

Looking in the direction he pointed, he saw two lifelike sika deer carved in the center of the eaves of the bed, and there was a tree in the middle of the deer, and there was a bell on the tree. Jiang Kaifeng explained: "The two deer represent the sound of the two deer, which has the meaning of longevity and happiness, and the addition of the bell can also symbolize that the officials who enjoy the official and eat the official should ring the alarm bell and dedicate themselves to public service." ”

"Wang Xiang Lying Fish", "East Bed Quick Son-in-law", "Kirin Sending Son", "All the Way to the Branch"...... In the past 10 years, Jiang Kaifeng has been obsessed with the study of collections, and the classic stories he has recorded are like treasures. He also made these stories into exhibition panels for visitors to read, advocating a good family style and leading social trends. Up to now, the museum has received more than 200,000 visitors and was promoted to a national second-class museum in 2020.

"There are indeed a lot of people who come to visit the museum, but instead of waiting for others to come, I think we should take the initiative to go out and let more people know, understand and like wood culture. Jiang Kaifeng said.

In this regard, Jiang Kaifeng thought of the city's municipal intangible cultural heritage -- the art of Chuantuo, and he found Hu Fake, the representative inheritor of the skill, and opened a "Chuantuo Studio" in the museum.

On the day of the interview, Hu Fake demonstrated the Chuantuo process to reporters in the studio. I saw that he first spread the rubbing board of the wood carving board on the table, covered it with Lianshi paper, and sprayed some water evenly on the paper and brushed it to make it close to the rubbing. After the paper was eight or nine minutes dry, he dipped it in cinnabar with a special rubbing bag and slapped it evenly and vertically on the paper. With his patting, the cinnabar on the rubbing bag continued to fall, and the pattern on the rubbing board was "transmitted" to the paper.

"Look, not only the pattern is exactly the same as the one on the rubbing, but even the size is copied one-to-one. Hu Fake skillfully took off the paper and said while showing it to reporters, "In a sense, Chuantuo is the earliest 3D printing." ”

With the extension of skills, the museum's wood culture inheritance has an additional "magic weapon". Relying on this skill, they use the museum's collection to develop cultural and creative works, so that the wood culture "hidden in the deep boudoir" glows with new vitality and is presented to the world.

Up to now, the Linyi Tianze Wood Culture Museum has held 263 exhibitions and public welfare activities, creating a provincial tour of the "Fuze" traditional wood carving board culture exhibition, a "clean and honest government" - a clean government culture and art tour exhibition and "Tianze Legend" - a special exhibition of wood carving and board inscriptions, becoming the first and only folk museum in our province to hold a provincial tour.

Hu Fake (middle) teaches the art of transmission to primary school students.

"To truly realize the traditional wood culture from generation to generation, we need to start from the baby. Jiang Kaifeng said. The museum set up the Tianze Wood Carving Transmission and Extension Workshop, set up wood carving transmission and extension courses in primary schools in surrounding towns and villages, and organized orphaned children to visit the museum, so that the children could understand trees and wood culture. At present, the museum has been approved as the Linyi Social Science Education Base, the Linyi Science and Technology Association Education Base, and the Linyi University Academy of Fine Arts Practice Base.

"In the future, we will continue to work the combination of intangible cultural heritage skills and the inheritance of wood culture, and strengthen the contact and communication with professional and technical personnel of state-owned museums, improve the professionalism of exhibitions, and continue to make wood culture alive and enter thousands of households. Jiang Kaifeng said.
