This year, the Chinese badminton team still won two awards, Huang Yaqiong won the best female athlete of the year, and Qu Zimo won the best male athlete with disabilities of the year.

Huang Yaqiong, a native of Xiachuan Town, Qujiang District, Quzhou, Zhejiang, began to learn badminton at the age of 7 and was selected for the national team at the age of 18. At the 2018 World Badminton Championships, she won the mixed doubles title, becoming the first female world champion in Quzhou. In December 2018, she was named the International Badminton Federation (BWF) Female Athlete of the Year. In March 2019, the "IELTS Pair" of Huang Yaqiong and Zheng Siwei won the 2019 All England Mixed Doubles Championship, becoming the first pair of BWF players to exceed 110,000 points, setting a new world record.
