As we all know, Apple has removed a large number of games that have not obtained version numbers, as well as some old apps that are unwilling to adapt to full screens. If you're paying attention, you'll notice that many of the old games that were fun a few years ago are gone.
Unexpectedly, in less than two years, the App Store will usher in another wave of "big purge", and a large number of APPs will disappear completely. To put it simply, the App Store will implement a "whitelist" system for apps in the future, and only apps that have filed for the record can provide services in China.
Why is this happening? Let's start with the source. All this stems from the "Notice of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Carrying out the Filing of Mobile Internet Applications" issued in July 2023, which is too long, and I will only list the key points here.
1. All APPs that provide Internet information services must fill in the form for registration and real-name, just like the website filing;
2. There is a 10-month transition period for filing, with the filing period from September 2023 to the end of March 2024, and inspections will begin in April 2023.
3. Application distribution platforms, network access service providers, and terminal enterprises are not allowed to provide services to apps that have not been filed, including application distribution, to prevent their dissemination.
This also means that apps that have not been registered and filed will not only be taken off the shelves, but also cannot be put on the shelves in third-party stores, and the channels for communication will be completely blocked, which can be said to be completely cold.
This matter is not child's play, because in September 2023, Apple updated the announcement in the developer background, clearly warning: Apps that have not been filed cannot be listed on the App Store in China.
The developers must have known about this for a long time, and the rectification should have been rectified a long time ago, but many users are not aware of it.
But the problem is that many foreign developers are unwilling to cooperate with the filing system of the country, and you cannot expect Google and INS to cooperate with the filing system.
There are also some individual developers who are not willing to reveal their real identities, so they will give up the filing, resulting in the removal of the APP.
At the time of writing, I went to check the recent data of the App Store, and the situation is very serious.
From April 1st to April 5th, 6,959 apps have been removed from the shelves in the national region, and nearly 1,000 apps are removed from the shelves every day. Most of them are APPs developed by small factories, or APPs developed by individuals, and there are almost no APPs developed by large factories.
It can be seen that the APP filing system has the greatest impact on overseas APPs, domestic small and medium-sized companies, and independent individual developers. On the contrary, the big Internet companies are not affected, they have some people who have money, stable business models, and it is relatively easy to deal with.
In the short term, there are strict rules that can clean up a number of non-compliant and wild apps. However, in the long run, although the APP filing system regulates the market, it will inevitably reduce developers' willingness to innovate.
This is easy to understand, assuming that before developing an app, the developer realizes that he must not only comply with Apple's design specifications, but also meet domestic filing standards. For each more link, there is one less point of confidence.
For fruit powder, the biggest problem is the collapse of the application ecology. In the absence of jailbreak or trolls, the App Store is almost the only stable download channel.
In addition, domestic iOS devices do not support app sideloading, once the APP is taken off the shelves, it is difficult to find a channel to download - in the face of this problem, Android phones are more selective, as long as the APK file can be found.
Even if the APP is taken off the shelves, as long as it is not a domestic server, users can still use it, but it cannot be downloaded and updated in the national App Store.
