Wikipedia: Timeline of the Russia-Ukraine War(2024-04-04)

April 04th

Russian forces fired 20 drones at Ukraine, and air defense forces shot down 11 drones in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said. [53] The governor of Ukraine's Kharkiv region said that at around 1 a.m., Russia launched a drone attack on the city of Kharkiv, killing at least four civilians and injuring 12 civilians, including several rescue workers. [54] Separately, the governor said that at least one civilian was killed and two injured in a Russian attack on agricultural land in Kharkiv around 1 p.m. [55] The governor of the Donetsk region said that at least two civilians were killed and one was injured in a Russian attack on New York, Donetsk region. [56]

Since the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost 445,040 soldiers in Ukraine, 670 casualties among Russian forces over the past day, cumulative losses of 7,018 tanks, 13,386 armored combat vehicles, 14,861 vehicles and fuel tanks, 11,142 artillery systems, 1,026 multiple launch rocket systems, 746 air defense systems, 347 aircraft, 325 helicopters, 8,817 drones, 2,059 cruise missiles, 26 ships and 1 submarine, etc. [57]

The Russian Defense Ministry said air defense forces shot down three Ukrainian drones over Belgorod Oblast and two over Tula Oblast. [58] The Kursk governor said that Ukrainian drones attacked the Kursk region of Russia late at night, resulting in damage to civilian infrastructure. [59]

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia's "double-tap tactic" attacks on Ukraine have killed 91 first responders and injured 348 others, according to information from Ukraine's State Emergency Service. [60] Ukraine's state nuclear power generation company said that an external overhead line that supplied electricity from Ukraine's energy grid to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was disconnected during the Russian attack, and is now connected to Ukraine's energy system through only one power line, and if it is disconnected from the last line of the national grid, the plant will be on the verge of another blackout, a serious violation of safe operating conditions. [61]

The head of cybersecurity at Ukraine's National Security Service said that Russian intelligence services had launched a large number of disinformation and psychological operations against high-level Ukrainian government and military officials. [62] A Ukrainian man was sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly assisting Russian forces in an attack on a café in Kramatorsk in June 2023, killing at least 13 civilians and injuring 60, Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office said. [63] Ukraine's National Security Service said that after the investigation, it was found that Russian forces had invaded the communications equipment of Ukrainian forces, and that the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of Ukrainian forces held an award ceremony in the frontline area on November 3, 2023, to commemorate Artillery Day, and that the Russian army launched 9K720 Iskander missiles to attack positions, killing at least 19 Ukrainian soldiers. [64]

Russian state-run media reported that Russian assault forces are still 100 to 500 meters away from the outskirts of Chasov Yar in Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine, according to Russian military bloggers and Telegram channels, describing the battle as a failure for Ukraine, which could cause the entire Donbas defense center to collapse and retreat, at least outside the territory of Donetsk. And for the Russian Armed Forces, the capture of Chasov Yar will make it possible to break through the Ukrainian defense centers built along the route from Konstantinovka to Kramatorsk and Slavyansk and completely capture Donbass. [65]

Ukraine has awarded a certificate of appreciation to a transnational hacking group for carrying out dozens of cyberattacks on Russian military companies and CCTV cameras. [66]

The Russian Federal Security Service announced the capture of a former IDF soldier who tried to join the Ukrainian army. He was warned and deported back to Israel. [67]
