Experts analyze the causes of the earthquake
According to China News Service, Xu Xiwei, the first president of the National Institute of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and a professor at the China University of Geosciences (Beijing), said that the earthquake was an earthquake in the subduction zone between the Philippine Sea plate and the Eurasian plate. The seismic area is located in the north-west oblique subduction zone of the Philippine Sea Plate, and due to the oblique subduction of the Philippine Sea Plate, in addition to the subduction zone, the left-handed strike-slip longitudinal valley fault (land) and the near-north-south reverse fault system to the west of the Philippine Sea Plate have developed in addition to the subduction zone.
Xu Xiwei said that the earthquake at this location is characterized by strong shortening of the earth's crust and oblique shear deformation caused by interplate collision subduction, and high-magnitude earthquakes are frequent.
