Most of the coal mines in the south are thin-bed coal, with complex geological conditions, thin coal seams and narrower roadways. In narrow aisles, traditional networks are difficult to expand and have limited data transmission capabilities, making communication and transmission more difficult. Jiayang Coal Mine mainly relies on 2.4G Wi-Fi built by Chongqing Research Institute in 2010, but due to aging equipment and bandwidth limitations, it can no longer meet the needs of telephone and video transmission within the coal mine, and it is urgent to improve the transmission of the mine network.

In order to solve this problem, Sichuan Jiayang Group, together with China Telecom Sichuan Company, Chongqing Research Institute and ZTE, has formulated a 5G+ intelligent mine construction plan to help Jiayang Coal Mine build a local 5G private network core network.

After fully considering the problems of narrow underground roadways and difficult network transmission in the southern coal mine, a base station is set up every 300 meters underground in the Jiayang Coal Mine, which means that there will be a 5G base station node within 150 meters of any location underground. According to Dan Tong, deputy chief engineer of Jiayang Coal Mine Informatization, the current 5G network deployment meets the wireless networking needs of a variety of underground equipment, ensuring that underground operators can access the network within 150 meters at any location, and seamless transmission can be achieved above and below the mine, which greatly improves the intelligent level and work efficiency of the coal mine.

Relying on 5G network technology, it realizes full coverage of underground high-speed network and full connection of underground equipment, which solves the network requirements of Jiayang Coal Mine's digital and intelligent transformation. Fan Qinying, general manager of Jiayang Group, said that in recent years, the Tianxi Shaft of Jiayang Coal Mine has successively carried out intelligent transformation of coal mining and excavation faces, effectively promoting the intelligent mining of the whole mine and the construction of intrinsically safe mines. In the 2023 National Coal Mine Coal Mining Face Intelligent Innovation Competition, the 31231 working face of Tianxijing in Jiayang Coal Mine won the special grade of the thin coal seam intelligent fully mechanized mining track, helping to create a new model for the intelligent transformation of thin bed coal in southern China.

With the help of 5G technology low-latency communication and massive data backhaul, Jiayang Coal Mine and ZTE have developed an intelligent personnel positioning system, which can accurately locate underground workers, with a static target accuracy of decimeter level and a dynamic target accuracy of meter level, which can observe the situation of underground workers in real time and ensure the safety of underground workers.

Many years ago, the movement of locomotives and equipment in the mine relied on the method of carrying and dragging on people's shoulders. Now, after the deployment of 5G, drilling rigs and other equipment, even in dim and narrow roadways, can automatically walk, and after reaching the set position, they can automatically adjust their attitude to rotate, and the workers can also operate coal mining on the ground, freeing more coal mine workers from dangerous environments.

In order to improve the safety of the mine, the underground operation site of Jiayang Coal Mine is equipped with high-definition cameras, with the capture function of potential safety hazards and illegal operations, and uses key technologies such as 5G large bandwidth, low latency, rapid detection, precise positioning, and multi-modal recognition to realize the intelligent image identification and alarm linkage of people, equipment, and environmental unsafe factors in the production process of Jiayang Coal Mine, which solves the problem of intelligent identification of potential safety hazards in coal mines, and realizes the underground less manpower and unmanned environment, so as to improve the safety production level and production efficiency of the mine.

Jiayang Coal Mine Intelligent Fully Mechanized Mining Ground Centralized Control Center covers the video inspection of the whole working face, the video monitoring of the whole process of the shearer cable, the video of the automatic switching of the bracket video, the voice alarm of the fault of the monitoring center, etc., which realizes the transparent management of all objects on and below the mine, and at the same time, the safety production and operation of the enterprise have been effectively controlled.

Wang Hui, a technician of Jiayang Coal Mine, said that at present, the automatic follow-up rate of Jiayang Coal Mine working face has reached more than 95%, while the equipment failure has been significantly reduced, the maintenance time has decreased by 80% year-on-year, and the single-day production personnel have been reduced from the original 63 to the current 8 people, and the per capita work efficiency has reached 406 tons/work.
