Aiming for the future: Plans for the €2.2 billion Dublin Airport Terminal 3 have been revealed

Dublin Airport Terminal 3 plans were formally submitted and could be built on land currently owned by the McEvaddy brothers.

A concept plan for Dublin Airport Terminal 3 has been formally presented to local authorities and includes a new terminal, parking facilities and a cargo terminal as part of the so-called Western Campus.

The proposal also includes a hotel and office space with a total investment of 2.2 billion euros.

The new development, driven by DA Terminal 3, a company founded by Des and Ulick McEvaddy, is planned to be located on a plot of land between the runways. In May last year, the two businessmen and several other landowners put the land up for sale. Although they later stated that several buyers were interested in the property, an offer of more than €70 million from Dublin Airport was rejected.

Plans for the western campus were made public in February, but the concept plan was not formally presented to Fingal County Council until the end of March.

There are still several planning stages for the project to pass before it can become a reality, with the next stage being the submission of a pre-planning presentation, followed by a planning application. In the meantime, the land is still for sale on the open market.

The plan states that a key element of the development is access to the runway. Dublin Airport's current plan aims to increase the number of passengers to 40 million by 2030. However, DA Terminal 3 says this is not enough and plans to significantly increase passenger throughput.

"There has been a lot of talk about increasing the rider cap to 40 million, but this approach is short-sighted and lacks a vision for future needs," said a spokesperson for D.A. Terminal 3.

"In fact, Dublin Airport needs a strategy based on the realities of the future. We are considering a master plan that will not only meet the needs of the tourist public, but also create a significant economic hub for Fingal and Dublin through the development of the Western Campus. ”
