A simple donation ceremony was held
At the scene, Mr. Yang Shixuan, the grandson of Yang Weiyun, a modern Wuxi industrialist and the owner of Yunxue Garden, donated the municipal cultural protection unit Yunxue Garden and its treasured family cultural relics to Wuxi City free of charge, continuing to carry forward the wishes of his grandfather and father, maintaining and giving full play to the value and role of Yunxue Garden, and promoting the prosperity and development of cultural undertakings in his hometown.
Wuxi Yang is a prominent family in the south of the Yangtze River, with a long history and generations of scholars. Yang Shiyi's grandfather Yang Weiyun and father Yang Tongyi are both representatives of modern Chinese national industry and commerce, and the Yang family has a large collection of ancient and modern famous paintings and calligraphy, and is committed to the collection and protection of Xiangxian paintings and calligraphy.
Since the 80s of the 20th century, the Yang family has donated family cultural relics to Wuxi in batches. Yang Tongyi, Yang Shiyi and his son have donated more than 110 sets of Yang Lingfu's works, more than 150 sets of old cultural relics in Yunxue Garden, more than 100 sets of old photos and video materials of the Republic of China, and more than 100 sets of old family cultural relics stored by Shanghai Bank of East Asia to Wuxi Museum. These cultural relics and materials are precious, which greatly enriches and enhances the quantity and quality of the collection of the Wuxi Museum.
In 2019, Mr. Yang Shiyi donated another 500,000 yuan to the Wuxi Cultural Heritage Protection Foundation for the restoration of the Guanhua Pavilion in the Ninja Grass Nunnery at the foot of Huishan Mountain. Today, the Guanhua Pavilion has become a pearl at the foot of Xihui Mountain.
Yang Shixuan, who is far away in Taiwan, cares about and supports the cultural construction of his hometown Wuxi. This donation to Yunxue Garden is another decision made by Mr. to benefit Sangzi.
Wuxi Yang's Yunxue Garden, with a construction area of 1076.45 square meters, is the former residence of Yang Weiyun. This is a private garden that presents a combination of Chinese and Western styles, and it is also the epitome of modern Wuxi garden construction and cultural inheritance. There are two-storey houses in the garden, because the outer wall is white, Wuxi people are used to calling it "little white building". After a hundred years of wind and rain, Xiaobailou is a witness of the Yang clan people going out of Wuxi and going to the world.
The relevant person in charge of the Wuxi Museum said that in the next step, the institute will deeply study the connotation of the donated cultural relics, revitalize the cultural heritage, inherit the family style, and give full play to the value and role of the cultural relics of Yunxue Garden and the Yang family, so that the results of cultural relics protection and utilization can benefit people's livelihood more extensively.
