Reports suggest that Toyota's all-new FJ Cruiser is likely to share the same architecture as its new $13,000 compact truck, the Hilux Champ. It is reported that the platform of this pickup truck will support the company's upcoming off-road vehicle, and the new car will go into production later this year. However, the official has not confirmed this news at present, and Toyota may have just ridiculed such a car to some extent.
Previously, it was reported that Toyota's all-new FJ Cruiser will use the TNGA-F architecture, which supports the Toyota Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Tundra, as well as the Lexus LX and Lexus GX. In addition, some overseas media also exposed a small off-road vehicle with retro styling and square proportions.
However, if Toyota wants to offer something smaller than the Land Cruiser, it doesn't have a truly compact off-road platform in its portfolio. It could reshape the RAV4, but it could also undermine its off-road capabilities, as Toyota hovers between off-road fun and affordability.
