How Siemens' SCM and GBS divisions are breaking the game with UiPath automation and AI innovations

author:China Power Grid

Faced with challenges such as tightening resource constraints and rising factor costs, manufacturing enterprises urgently need to transform and upgrade and rebuild their competitiveness.

As one of the leading companies in the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, Siemens has actively embraced emerging technologies such as AI and automation to optimize business processes, build a new foundation for enterprise digital technology, and develop more business transformation ideas in the face of challenges in production, service, and business growth.

Siemens Supply Chain Management (SCM) China and Siemens Global Services (GBS) play an integral role in supporting Siemens' overall business objectives. Due to the large number of SCM and GBS businesses and the involvement of multiple departments within the enterprise, the efficiency and accuracy of business data have become their common core business concerns. Similarly, how to make business data more intelligent is also a new business goal that the two have been trying to achieve.

How Siemens' SCM and GBS divisions are breaking the game with UiPath automation and AI innovations

税务无小事,需和共同加持

The tax ID processing process in the procurement sector is crucial. After a multi-faceted technical review, SCM and GBS decided to work together to upgrade the technology of the tax ID processing business, and chose to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to help end users select or correct tax ID numbers in orders. It is worth emphasizing that this project is strongly supported by the Siemens tax department.

Combined with Siemens' existing automation experience, SCM and GBS have continued their friendly cooperation with UiPath, using AI machine learning and RPA technology for the first time to fully promote the "Tax AI Project" and accelerate the realization of smart taxation for tax departments. The project is progressing smoothly and has now been completed for online implementation.

Tax AI is the key to solving problems and becoming the key to improving business efficiency

Building a smart tax process is one of the challenges of Siemens' comprehensive deepening transformation, and the newly launched Tax AI project is the "key to solving this problem".

Specifically, the Tax AI project is mainly used in P2P, that is, in the procure-to-pay link. With this project, robots can use machine learning to automatically correct incorrect tax IDs in purchase orders during the indirect material procurement process in the supply chain. With powerful artificial intelligence center management capabilities and perfect machine learning models, coupled with specific predefined tax number logic correction rules, it can achieve accurate tax number processing and accelerate tax business efficiency. Among them, the machine learning model is based on two years of historical order data verified by tax experts, which ensures the accuracy and reliability of the data. At the same time, UiPath Action Center allows for human-in-the-loop interaction to ensure that subject matter experts can artificially validate predictions when the confidence level does not reach a predefined threshold, so that machine learning models can be automatically trained repeatedly, with higher model performance and lower error rate of tax ID numbers.

After the deployment of automation technology, the workload of manual order modification or invoice change by procurement and finance related colleagues was greatly reduced, and the efficiency of the entire procurement process and the accuracy of tax ID numbers were improved. The data shows that the accuracy of the tax number has been improved to more than 95%, and the effect is very significant. Through this project, we have also successfully obtained two patents issued by the National Copyright Administration.

Strengthen the foundation of automation technology to make data smarter

Commenting on the project, Michael Haendel, Vice President and Head of Supply Chain Management, China & Asia/Australia, Siemens Ltd. said, "By using artificial intelligence, we have replaced and optimized the manual order approval process, achieved faster and more accurate order processing, reduced human errors, and dramatically changed the way we operate. Overall, the AI+RPA project has significantly improved efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction. ”

Lu Jin, Vice President and Head of Global Business Services China of Siemens (China) Co., Ltd., said, "The innovation of AI+RPA has provided more room for optimization of GBS's business processes, replacing the original manual process through intelligence and automation, shortening the process time and improving the overall efficiency. ”

With the deepening of the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, the underlying technical support of Siemens' digital transformation will become increasingly mature and stable. In the future, Siemens will continue to carry out forward-looking technology deployment, maintain the spirit of continuous innovation, deepen cooperation with UiPath, and let automation technology promote Siemens' digital transformation to a higher level and a wider range of fields.
