On March 22, 2024, Yang Qian's solo exhibition "Color and Light" opened at the Yuan Art Museum in Beijing. This exhibition is the artist's first solo exhibition in the past four years, and it showcases the artist's latest "Color and Light Series".

About this exhibition, curator Gu Yan wrote in the preface of the exhibition: Yang Qian found his own painting language and materials based on the relationship between fluorescent materials and 365nm purple light waves.
Purple light and fluorescent materials of different compositions, under the artist's multiple "intentional and unintentional" interventions, grow another layer of images that are completely different from the daily light wave visual images, radiating, rotating, and beating circles, bringing new boundaries and life meanings to art.

In the exhibition, the paradox and uncertainty behind the game of color and light in Yang Qian bring the viewer into an almost meditative peace in the tranquility of brightness, mystery, agitation and moderation.
If John Cage's "4 Minutes and 33 Seconds" invites the world to find inner tranquility and introspection in the impetuousness of rapid economic development, then Yang Qian's "Color and Light" uses color and light to extract a pure, quiet and solemn color time and space, gently calling and soothing the wandering and lost soul in the rapidly changing hustle and bustle world.

Art theorist Zang Ce interprets Yang Qian's works in this exhibition in this way: whether it is theology in the past or science in today, light, as a particle, is related to the origin of the universe. With light, everything in the universe gradually takes shape. Light is both a high-frequency electromagnetic wave and a stream of particles composed of light particles, so light has the dual properties of waves and particles. So, in a way, we can understand that light is the origin of the universe.
While light makes the being visible, it also conceals its invisible face—the world beyond the boundaries of the human senses. In recent years, artist Yang Qian has made various artistic experiments, using different technical means to reveal the "third dimension" generated by himself in the process of interweaving with the world.

Ultraviolet light itself is invisible to the naked eye, but Yang Qian uses ultraviolet light to make his paintings a "light painting", revealing another side of his usual hidden appearance in the dialogue between UV spotlights and sunlight and fluorescent materials. Looking at these works of Yang Qian, we can't help but further develop our philosophical thoughts about beings and their appearances...... So what is true and what is illusory?
