BMW is taking a key step in the transformation of the next generation. At the 2024 BMW Group Annual Financial Conference, the BMW next-generation X Concept made its world debut, bringing the concept and technology of future mobility to the Sport Utility Vehicle (SAV) segment. With the BMW Concept Car and the BMW X Concept, BMW has demonstrated its vision for two key market segments: sedan and SAV.
The "New Generation" not only represents the next generation of the BMW brand, but also embodies BMW's determination and ability to embrace changes and challenges: it will turn the vision of future mobility into reality with strong strategic focus, excellent system capabilities and firm execution capabilities.
In 2024, the production network related to the new generation of models will be further expanded, and the BMW Group's R&D investment and capital expenditure on the automotive business will peak. R&D investment is mainly focused on electrified vehicles, including next-generation models, and digital innovations in the vehicle, such as vehicle connectivity, software stacks, and autonomous driving. A large amount of capital expenditure is mainly related to plants, products and innovative technologies.
The BMW Group will start global production of next-generation models in the second half of 2025, with at least six next-generation models to be in series production within the next 24 months. At the same time, road tests have already started on the new generation of models. In 2026, the new generation of domestically produced BMW models will be put into production in Shenyang. The construction of the sixth-generation power battery project was officially capped last year, and the main body of the building was completed.
