At the end of February, a Cypriot employee of the China-Cyprus Friendship Biosafety Laboratory was rushed to the emergency department of the China-Cyprus Friendship Hospital due to sudden symptoms of hematuria and abdominal pain. Due to the limited level of local medical care, only simple oxygen, catheterization and oral antibiotic treatment were used, and the man's condition continued to deteriorate, and he was once on the verge of life and death.

When the patient's life was in danger, Associate Professor Xia Ke of the China-aided Sierra Leone medical team received a distress message. She rushed to the emergency ward. Through careful medical history and physical examination, Associate Professor Xia Ke diagnosed that the patient may have acute renal impairment caused by falciparum malaria, and because the patient did not undergo scientific treatment in the early stage and abused drugs and did not drink or eat for two days, the blood volume decreased sharply, resulting in a sharp decrease in renal perfusion and a sharp deterioration of kidney function.

Under limited conditions, Associate Professor Xia Ke took decisive action to guide the patient to undergo basic laboratory tests such as blood and urine routine, liver and kidney function, and immediately invited Associate Professor Zhou Shu, a member of the medical team and associate professor of the Department of Ultrasound Imaging of Changsha Central Hospital, to conduct abdominal Doppler ultrasound examination for the patient, and found that the patient's kidney was substantially damaged, accompanied by acute renal failure, anemia, serious infection, etc.

In the face of difficulties, Associate Professor Xia Ke did his best to create the best renal perfusion environment for patients under limited medical conditions. On the one hand, she forbade the patient to continue to take drugs that damage the kidneys and encouraged drinking and eating, and on the other hand, she gradually stabilized the patient's condition through infusion expansion, increased renal perfusion, correction of electrolyte imbalance, anti-infection and other treatment measures. After several days of careful treatment, the patient's urine output increased, the color became lighter, and the indicators gradually returned to normal.

Under the meticulous treatment of the China-Cyprus Friendship Hospital, the patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital after half a month and returned to work. To express their gratitude, the patient and family sent a letter of thanks to Xia Ke. The letter reads: "I would like to say thank you to all the doctors who helped me save my life, and in my heart, Professor Xia is the angel who pulled me back from the gates of hell. ”

Zhou Hejun, captain of the China-Cyprus Friendship Laboratory, said that there are often heart-warming stories of China's medical aid to foreign countries. At the beginning of February, team member Tian Tingting accidentally injured her calf, thinking it was just a small wound and did not pay attention to it. However, as time passed, the wound gradually deteriorated, showing symptoms such as swelling and suppuration, and eventually spread to the entire lower leg, making it difficult for her to walk and even relying on crutches. In the face of this sudden change, Zhang Leiyi, deputy captain of the medical team, and Fang Xing, associate professor of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, made a decisive judgment that the situation was serious and could evolve into cellulitis and sepsis. Therefore, the medical team made a quick decision and urgently performed surgery for Teacher Tian Tingting in the case of a power outage. After careful post-operative care, she recovered well and was able to abandon her crutches and walk independently on the third day.

"Although these two incidents are not uncommon among the many stories of China's medical aid to foreign countries, they happened close to me and made me deeply feel the benevolence and boundless spirit of the doctors. Captain Zhou He said.
