If you want a lightweight all-in-one set, here it is!

author:Tech Locke

A year ago, the Panasonic S5M2 body was released, and in the past year, I have used this machine to shoot a lot of works, cities, portraits, nature, and starry sky.

I've used 14-28, 20-60, 70-200 for these shots, but some photography enthusiasts feel that carrying multiple lenses is too cumbersome, so a lot of people are looking forward to a wide range zoom lens, so today this 28-200mm lens is here.

This lens weighs 413 grams, and the total weight of the S5M2 body is only 1070 grams, and it is very short, with the zoom fully extended lens, which is only the length of a 6.1-inch mobile phone.

What is the image quality of this lightweight combination? What are the shooting skills? That's what I want to talk to you about next, and I'll also share the specific camera positions.

The advantage of a large zoom lens is that it has a high degree of flexibility, and can handle scenes from wide angles to telephotos, so I came to Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year to shoot people, landscapes, and architecture, which is very good for the actual performance of this lens in all aspects of travel.

1. Shoot large scenes at the wide-angle end

In landscape photography, the wide-angle camera is still the most widely used focal length range, it can accommodate more content in the scene, and the tension of the picture is stronger, and I particularly like the two wide-angle cameras in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong's Fei Gee Peak, a very classic camera overlooking the city from the top of the mountain, compared to the Victoria Peak, here is more wild, I named this work "The Top of the Port City". Overlooking Victoria Harbour from the top of the hill, a wide-angle focal length is needed to highlight the expanse of the city. Take the tent as a point of interest, guide the vision, let everyone notice the people on the top of the mountain, the top of the mountain is completely dull, and you can rely on the strong tolerance of S5M2 to brighten it in the later stage.

Victoria Harbour Observation Deck, This camera pays attention to the combination of movement and static, using a slow shutter speed to draw the water surface and clouds, so that the flow of the state and the building contrast, In order to make the water surface not too monotonous, I deliberately photographed a moving cruise ship, this light track can make the foreground more vivid, 28-200 lens uses a 67mm filter, in the evening I use a 6-stop filter, so that the shutter speed reaches about 40 seconds.

2. Express the perspective of the building

In the subject matter of cities and architecture, focal perspective is a particularly commonly used expression technique, which is defined as starting from a foothold, conforming to the characteristics of near and far small, and helping to express a sense of space.

Pingshi Estate, one of the representatives of the tube building, is surrounded by rooms, the middle is hollowed, standing in the middle of the upward shot can get a typical focus perspective effect, the sense of extension of the layers is very strong, can highlight the characteristics of dense residential areas, small and light 28-200 sets of machines, very convenient storage, in the travel or citywalk will not become a burden.

The Hong Kong Museum of Art, the spiral staircase is common in many cities, and the feeling of winding curves is very tense, and the 28mm wide-angle end is used to shoot, which has a stronger sense of perspective from near to far. When shooting, it is necessary to choose the direction where the light hits the staircase, so that the staircase and the handrail exterior wall can form a chiaroscuro and divide the layers.

3. The compression of the telephoto

We often refer to the compression of telephoto, which refers to compressing the level of distance and near into a layer of up and down, left and right in a plane, and this effect can also be reflected in the 28-200mm lens.

The flyover in Central, Hong Kong, where the sun sets, illuminates the intersection in the distance, and the crowds of people coming and going and the double-decker buses are very expressive of Hong Kong's characteristics. This scene is seen to the naked eye from near to far from the front and back, but when shot with a telephoto, the top-to-bottom level is even more prominent, and the characters and vehicles appear very small in the contrast of high-rise buildings.

Fourth, telephoto captures small scenes

The flexibility of the large zoom allows us to freely compose the shot and shoot more angles and details.

The Innovation Building of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the School of Environmental Design, so its architectural style is also very distinctive, and the semi-hollow effect presented by white walls and glass is very futuristic. The moment the light hits the patio with a focal length of 70mm, the colors and light and shadow of the whole picture are very transparent and harmonious.

The staircase of Fumizuwabu Elementary School, Some buildings are dull if you shoot the whole building from a wide angle, but if you capture the part with a telephoto, you can find its uniqueness. The combination of rainbow colors may be a tradition in Hong Kong, so the facades of many buildings are colorful. The color reproduction of this 28-200mm lens at the telephoto end is very realistic, and there is no graying of the picture.

5. Capture the humanistic street scene

Hong Kong's market signs, red taxis, and double-decker buses are all good street photography subjects, and capturing is about waiting and anticipation, and it also tests the focus and lens flexibility.

The staircase at the main entrance of Central Market, where the afternoon light comes in, fills the atmosphere and forms a whole story if the right person happens to pass by. I waited here for nearly two hours, and finally saw a father and daughter walk in, halfway through the little girl suddenly ran first, quickly captured, using high-speed continuous shooting + AF-C character focus, frozen this moment, the elongated shadow on the stairs is very dramatic.

The Murray Building in Central, with white checkered and red taxis, has a strong contrast, and here I deliberately lowered the shutter speed to blur the vehicle and express a dynamic state, combining the movement and stillness of the car and the building. There is a lot of traffic on this main road, so if you want to shoot the scene where only one car passes by, you have to start observing from the side intersection, and the taxi turns around alone and prepares to capture, which is also high-speed continuous shooting + AF-C focus chasing.

Summary:

The above is my experience and skills for this shooting, the full-frame body with a 28-200mm lens, which can meet the needs of travel, novices, and daily hang-ups, making up for the needs of Panasonic users in one lens to go all over the world, the color reproduction and focusing response ability of the lens are at a good level, combined with the S5M2 full-frame body image high image quality and balanced video performance, it is a very cost-effective large zoom suite.
