Previously, the 5th Division of the Japanese Army [Division Commander Lieutenant General Seishiro Itagaki drew up a plan to attack Xinkou Town:

1. If the Japanese army wants to attack Taiyuan, it must pass through Xinkou Town and Guancheng Town in the south of Xin County [20 kilometers south of Xin County, near Shiling Pass], and the Chinese army will defend near Xinkou Town first. According to the Japanese army's observations, there were signs of long-term resistance from the Chinese side near Xinkou Town, and there were also Chinese troops preparing for defense south of Guancheng Town.

2. The start date of the Japanese attack on the Chinese army was the dawn of October 13. The initial attack was planned on October 12, but the Kwantung Army's Shinoharara Brigade attached to the 5th Division [Division Commander Lieutenant General Seishiro Itagaki] had been attacking the inner castle of Haradaira Town since October 6, and it had not been swept up until October 10. The sweep on the 11th was completely over, so it was difficult to start the attack on the 12th, so it was delayed for 1 day and postponed to the 13th. After the Shinohara's brigade occupied the town of Harahira, preparations were made on the 12th, and the attack began at dawn on the 13th.

The plan for the attack on Xinkou decided that the troops on the first line would be the 5th Division [Division Commander Lieutenant General Seishiro Itagaki], the 21st Infantry Brigade [Brigade Commander Major General Toshiji Miura], and the 15th Infantry Brigade of the Kwantung Army [Brigade Commander Major General Seiichiro Shinohara], and the Tsutsumi Brigade would be deployed as the second line. After capturing Ningwu, the Gayanti Brigade stayed in Ningwu, and because of the poor roads, its vehicle troops returned to Yuanping Town from Shuoxian through Yanmen Pass, and its movement was very difficult. During the Xinkou Assault Battle, the Dike Brigade was deployed on the highlands southwest of Yongxing Village [10 kilometers southwest of Yuanping].

2. At dawn on the 13th of tomorrow, our corps attacked the western heights of Xinkou Town with the main force, and the other attacked and destroyed the enemy near Datanglin [19 kilometers southwest of Yuanping and 5 kilometers south of Yanzhuang].

The Kwantung Army's Temporary Flying Team and the Front Army's Flying Team assisted in the attack.

3. At 5 o'clock on the 13th, the Miura troops (the 1st Brigade of the 21st Infantry Wing is missing, and the 1st Engineer Squad is attached) launched an attack on the southern highlands of Lianjiazhuang [6 kilometers west of Xinkou, 2 kilometers west of Nanhuaihua] and Guanzi Village [5 kilometers northwest of Xinkou], and the water flow line on the north side. Seize the positions of the Chinese army on the first line of Shilipu [10 kilometers north of Xin County] and Gaojiazhuang [10 kilometers northeast of Xin County], and advance time in and out of the attack at 7:30. The 1st Engineer Squadron entered Hirajiquan [formerly 4 km south of Heijin] on the 12th of this year and was under the command of Captain Takeda [Commander of the 5th Field Artillery Wing of the 5th Division Regiment Takeda Shin Osa]. The 1st Brigade of the 21st Infantry Wing is located in Pingdiquan [4 kilometers south of Pingchang], which is directly under the jurisdiction of the Corps Headquarters.

4. The embankment troops [also known as the embankment detachment, the detachment is not expensive] entered and exited on the line of Liuzhuang Village [19 kilometers west of Xinkou] and Weijiazhuang [15 kilometers southwest of Yuanping], attacked the enemy near Datanglin [19 kilometers southwest of Yuanping, 5 kilometers south of Yanzhuang], and entered and exited on the line of Shangshe Village (about 4 miles south of Datanglin) and Beizhao Village. After the breakthrough of the position near Datanglin [19 kilometers southwest of Yuanping and 5 kilometers south of Yanzhuang], the 1st Field Artillery Squadron was attached. The rest of the artillery was commanded by Captain Takeda.

5. On the 12th, the Shinohara's troops [Kwantung Army] advanced to Yongxing Village [10 km southwest of Harahei]. The Field Artillery Brigade entered Shimo-Ohara Taira, under the command of Captain Takeda. Wireless Detachment 1 is on permanent location to ensure the communications of its troops.

6. The Takeda troops (attached to the field artillery of the Shinohara, the Nagaki Heavy Artillery Brigade, and the 1st Engineer Squad) began firing at dawn on the 13th, and the main forces of our army were between Shimowangzhuang [5 km northwest of Xinkou] and Chishang Village [6 km northwest of Xinkou].
