Miss Hermes, Wu Zhuoxi - this moment
Hermès appointed RDAI (http://www.renadumas.com/) as its general design agent to design the store worldwide, meeting the unique and unexpected requirements for the showroom. Hermès is building a store in an empty abandoned swimming pool. Now that the work is nearing completion, the design not only does not abandon the pool, but rather adds new life to the old building. Transform Saint-Germaindes-Prés in Paris into a Hermès fashion womenswear store.
Built in 1935, the swimming pool has a strong architectural character and is very eye-catching, and since 2005 it has been listed as a historical milestone and represents the spirit of that era.
Later, when it was closed, the pool was converted to a different use. The challenge was to capture some of the original Hermès essence – from tradition to modernity, from wit to innovation. It's a win-win project. The first is to respect and preserve history, and the second is to reinterpret the architectural style of this swimming pool.
The most important improvement was to cover the pool with a composite of concrete supported by a lightweight structure, so that the pool was completely protected. On the other hand, it is necessary to ensure absolute modernization.
These three monumental cabins made of ash wood not only destroy the sense of emptiness of the original space, but also subvert it. For example, the concept of a room within a room, the flow of space and the intrusion of lighting into the pool.
It's all over the place, it seems natural, it's fluid and rippling. The flickering of the water flow is affected by the subtle mosaics, which affect the effect of the light. The original and later parts form a strange harmony. They are one and they complement each other.
Four organic designs resembling thatched huts, in which you will be reminded of the shadows of plants, or the world of animals, or the feeling of childhood, which occupy the entire pool space, like a bird's nest. These huts are made of ash wood and come in different shapes.
They have a self-supporting structural system, with hyperbolic strips of wood woven together with each other. Each thatched hut has a complex geometry, and each component is written by a computer script. After rising more than 9 meters high, the wooden strips seem to be close together, as if they are sucked up by the skylight.
These woven chalets are also part of the Hermès collection. The fourth part of the wooden house, lying on both sides of the staircase, naturally leads the visitor into the Hermès space.
