According to a new UEFA report, Manchester United had the most expensive spending costs ever last season.

The findings show that Manchester United spent a staggering £1.2bn on costs last season, when the team finished third in the Premier League, won the Carabao Cup (League Cup) and finished runners-up in the FA Cup.

However, Manchester United have struggled this season and are currently sixth in the Premier League table after a recent upturn in form.

Several premium transfers that have made up the main part of this include: Antony (£86 million), Harry Maguire (£80 million), Jadon Sancho (£73 million) and Casemiro (£70 million).

Champions League and Premier League champions Manchester City came in second with a team cost of £1.1 billion, followed by Chelsea (£927 million, *2021/22 financial year), Real Madrid (£882 million) and Paris Saint-Germain (£800 million).

Liverpool (£774 million) are in the sixth, with Premier League sides Arsenal (seventh, £761 million), Tottenham Hotspur (ninth, £570 million), Newcastle (12th, £465 million), Aston Villa (15th, £428 million) and West Ham United (17th, £380 million) in the top 20.

In terms of revenue, Real Madrid topped the list with £720 million in the current financial year, followed by Manchester City (£715 million), Barcelona (£698 million) and Paris Saint-Germain (£690 million).

Manchester United (£639 million) are in fifth place – down one place from the previous year – with Liverpool (£584 million), Tottenham Hotspur (£541 million), Chelsea (£504 million), Arsenal (£458 million), Newcastle (£246 million), West Ham (£235 million) and Brighton (£226 million) all rounding out the top 20.
