In the past, every time I returned to my hometown Xiangxiang, the first thing I did was to find something to eat, and I wanted to find the delicious food in my memory, such as rice noodles, cake flowers, plum dried vegetables and pork, snowflake balls, and fire-baked fish...... Then, when you have eaten and drunk enough, you will go to Bizhou Park for a walk, go to Dongshan School to pay respects, or climb Dongtai Mountain.
In the first few years after leaving my hometown, I basically returned to my hometown mode, and I was very satisfied. Later, I wanted to have a better understanding of my hometown, so I looked for some local chronicles or literary and historical materials, and learned a lot about the historical personnel and ins and outs.
Later, I became more and more fond of contacting writers, poets and artists in my hometown, because through contact with them, I could maintain a pure feeling of my hometown, an original feeling, and felt that in them, I embodied a taste, culture and spirit of my hometown, and only through them and their works could we really enter the depths of my hometown, truly understand my hometown, and know where the essence, foundation and source are, and Mr. Tang Yingnan and his local customs paintings are the most representative in this regard.
I once occasionally saw a painting by Mr. Tang Yingnan "Everyday Upward", which depicts a scene of a rural child studying seriously in a small farm yard. Maybe it was just coming back from school, busy with farm work, the child sat on a small bench and hurried to do his homework, the child lowered his head and was very serious. Surrounded by melon vine leaves, flowers and leaves in full bloom, farm tools still aside, a few chickens walking around at their feet, a strong local atmosphere blowing in the face, like the countless rural scenes I have seen before!
So, I began to deliberately search for Mr. Tang's paintings, and found that many of them could satisfy my secret spiritual desire to return home.
For example, in "Under the Sun", the elder sister stands on a stool picking a loofah, and the younger brother picks up the loofah and puts it in a basket, the picture is harmonious and warm; in "Summer Fun", the boy herds the cow, the buffalo is afraid of the heat and floats in the pond to play in the water, and the teenager naughtily lies on the back of the cow, picking lotus leaves to shade the sun, which is witty and interesting; "Staying Guest", in front of the rural house, the adults and children stay to play with the classmates to eat, which is a common life scene when we were children; "Kiss Grandpa" "Rain", a sudden downpour, a group of chickens run away to the house to hide from the rain, the rain curtain and the door curtain, reflecting each other, full of life...... These paintings are all small scenes of daily life, which makes people feel very intimate.
There are also some pictures that are relatively open, such as "Egg Market", the egg market is Xiangxiang Tan Town, in the 1980s, it used to be an important egg trading market in the central region, where all kinds of characters traded, intersected, "Egg Market" depicted this scene, a typical market customs painting in the early days of reform and opening up;
These paintings are full of steaming life, and they cannot be painted without a very strong foundation and in-depth observation of the surrounding human environment. Contemporary figure painting advocates a people-centered creative orientation, and Mr. Tang Yingnan can be described as a down-to-earth practitioner and explorer.
In these local customs paintings of Mr. Tang Yingnan, they can preciously retain the scenes of daily life of the times, and are filled with a warm and real life atmosphere, so they have the efficacy and value similar to the archives of daily life customs and social landscape museums, which can be called art treasures that can be inherited.
For people like me, who grew up in these places, these paintings retain the daily scenes of my youth, and every time I look at them, I have to slowly reminisce and chew them, which is a spiritual feast. Therefore, when I go back to my hometown now, in addition to tasting food and visiting scenic spots, I have added a new program and content, which is to appreciate Mr. Tang Yingnan's paintings.
If the sense of taste and touch is physical and material, the vision is spiritual, eating rice flour cake flowers is the return of the body, and appreciating Mr. Tang Yingnan's paintings is the spiritual return.
Tang Yingnan: Chinese Painting "Egg Market"
Guo Xi of the Song Dynasty talked about landscape painting, saying that "there are feasible people in landscapes, there are those who can be hoped, there are those who can travel, and there are people who can live". Feasible and hopeful, just ornamental, can live and travel is a higher realm, really excellent works of art, people can live in the body, the spirit in the meantime, because it is the home of the soul, for me, Mr. Tang Yingnan's local customs and customs paintings, there is such an effect, there is my nostalgia, is the home where my soul can live in the middle. Therefore, each of his paintings is a nostalgia for me.
The love of hometown has been shared by everyone since ancient times.
The Chinese nation is particularly deep-rooted, and it can be seen from the hundreds of millions of Chinese who want to go home for reunion every Spring Festival, no matter where they are, desperately want to go home for reunion. In the past, I didn't understand that the ancients who left their hometown would paint the landscape of their hometown and hang it on the wall of the living room, study, bedroom, or even make a screen and place it at the head of the bed. Now, I understand that by doing so, they are actually imagining that they still live in the scenery and atmosphere of their hometown. Since the hometown is far away and out of reach, it is simply painted and hung in front of you, and when you have nothing to do, you can take a look at it and chat to comfort your hometown.
Therefore, nostalgia is a painting. Mr. Tang Yingnan's paintings have such a role and efficacy. This is also where its artistic value lies.
