"I've been dealing with patterns all my life"
Chang Shana, a 93-year-old Dunhuang art and arts and crafts design research expert, designed the New Year's Brocade for the Spring Festival Gala for the first time, with beautiful and elegant traditional Chinese patterns, implying auspiciousness and festivity and a beautiful yearning for happiness and prosperity, and sending the blessings of happiness, health, wealth and prosperity to the audience.
Chang Shana said: "I have been dealing with patterns all my life, but it is the first time for me to design patterns for the Spring Festival Gala." "People give traditional patterns beautiful meanings, and they are applied everywhere on the stage of the Spring Festival Gala, which is a blessing to every audience.
Patterns condense folk aesthetics and mathematical principles, and a figure can be changed in a variety of ways. The size of the square is superimposed to form a hollow pattern, and the basic pattern can produce a variety of new patterns through rotation, translation, and symmetry. In addition, there are many auspicious "homophonic stalks" in the pattern, like a large-scale guessing game, among them, the gourd symbolizes "Fulu", the elephant represents "auspicious", and the goldfish has the meaning of "full of gold and jade".
Chang Shana said that traditional Chinese patterns are "like today's young people's greetings and online emojis!" It originated from the people, and from ancient times to the present, people have given their own stories and meanings.
Patterns of these landmarks
It's all from her
93-year-old Chang Shana has many labels: "Dunhuang Girl", "Daughter of Dunhuang Patron Saint", decoration designer of the Great Hall of the People, designer of the first national gift of New China, and Lin Huiyin's protégé...... But she always introduces herself to others like this: "I am from Dunhuang. ”
From being born in Lyon, France in 1931, to following her father to guard the Mogao Grottoes, a thousand-year-old art treasure, Dunhuang is the love of her life, and she has also practiced "Tongzigong".
Due to her talent in copying Dunhuang murals, at the age of 20, Chang Shana was selected to participate in the design of the first national gift of New China. Inspired by Lin Huiyin, Chang Shana used the "pigeon" in the Dunhuang elements to design a series of products such as cloisonné and dove of peace plate, dove of peace silk scarf national gift, etc. At that time, the Soviet ballet dancer Ulanova was full of praise for this: "This is the most beautiful gift of New China." ”
In 1952, Chang Shana designed the "Dove of Peace" silk scarf
Great Hall of the People, National Culture Palace, Capital Theater, Capital Airport, China World Hotel...... A number of national images and urban landmark buildings with Dunhuang elements in different eras have become the unique scenery of the capital Beijing.

Chang Shana said: "The creative idea of 'national, scientific, and popular' is the context and self-confidence, and it is a kind of national and blood thing. She has never forgotten where she belongs, and her father's advice rang in her ears from time to time: "Shana, don't forget that you are from Dunhuang." ”
An "encounter" that touched the whole network
93-year-old Chang Shana has a "dialogue" with her father across time and space
"Dad, it's been a long time since I've seen you. Dad, my dear Dad, I'm always worried about you......" In the program "Let's Talk", this scene touched many people: Chang Shana, who was over 90 years old, walked into Chang Shuhong Art Museum, looked at the statue of her father, she called her father softly, and choked up to recall the bits and pieces of Dunhuang that once guarded.
In 1931, Chang Shana was born in Lyon, France, and Chang Shuhong named her "Shana" with the homonym of a local river. At that time, Chang Shuhong saw the Dunhuang picture album on the bookstall when he was strolling, and he knew that the motherland had such an art treasure house.
In addition to being shocked, he also made up his mind that he must return to China and go to Dunhuang. Chang Shana clearly remembers that her father often said to her at that time: "Shana, we have more than 5,000 years of civilization in China, we have to go and have a look." ”

"I should be lucky that I have a father who is known as the 'Guardian Saint of Dunhuang'. Chang Shana said: "It was a very hard time in those years, and he worked hard. ”
She once asked her father, "Why is it so hard?" and Chang Shuhong replied calmly: "In order to protect these treasures that have been sleeping on the endless Gobi Desert for more than a thousand years!"
"Shana, wherever you go, remember that you are from Dunhuang!" her father's advice was still clear in her ears. She followed the path that her father once walked, and for decades, she used her brush to bring the beauty of Dunhuang out of the desert, so that more people could see its splendor. She knows that she has been the daughter of Dunhuang all her life.
Choose one thing in your life, and you will be prosperous in your life. As Chang Shana said: "I have followed my father since I was six or seven years old, walking and walking, and until now, I am 93 years old." ”
Touched! Salute!
