Myanmar's National Military Council announced:

On February 10, 2024, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of Myanmar's State Administration Committee, signed Order No. 27/2024 announcing that Myanmar's National Service Law will come into force on February 10, 2024.

The National Service Law was enacted and promulgated by the State Peace and Development Council Government of Myanmar in 2010 and will come into force on February 10, 2024.

In accordance with the provisions of the National Service Act, all citizens are obliged to perform military service and must be called up for military service.

Years of enlistment:

Male: 18 to 35 years old;

Female: 18 to 27 years old. Military service is compulsory for all school ages.

Those who are eligible for the technical arms are recruited for the following years: male, 18 to 45 years old; female, 18 to 35 years old.

According to the Law on Military Service of the People's Republic of China, the duration of military service is as follows:

All citizens who have reached the age of service are required to be called up for a period not exceeding 24 months

B. Recruited into specialized and technical services for a period not exceeding 36 months. Personnel of technical services who have reached the age of military service shall be called up to three years.

C. In the event of an emergency, the maximum duration of military service will be extended to 5 years.

Refusal to enlist in the armed forces and evasion of military service is punishable by imprisonment for five years.

Failure to sign up for military service, failure to attend a medical examination after registration, failure to show up after receiving a notice of service, and falsification of documents are punishable by three years' imprisonment.

Those who do not want to join the army and falsify the medical examination report, and intentionally cause physical harm so that they fail the medical examination, shall be sentenced to five years in prison.

Encourage and support those who do not join the army are sentenced to one year's imprisonment.

Persons exempt from military service include: 1. religious personnel, 2. married women (including divorced women with children), 3. persons with permanent disabilities, 4. persons who have been determined by the Military Medical Corps Inspection Committee to be permanently unfit to serve in the militia, and 5. Persons who have been exempted from service by order of the Central Conscription Commission.
