Native to the United States, Mexico, Guyana, and Peru, the Latin name for the Orchidaceae genus and its relatives is derived from the Greek word for "many," which speaks volumes about its excellent flowering properties and the starry blooming color when it blooms (Figure 1). The peduncle is slender and soft, and when it is blown by the wind, it trembles and sways, which is very dynamic and has a strong ornamental nature.

Its flower shape resembles a butterfly fluttering its wings, and the early introduced species are mostly golden in color, commonly known as the butterfly orchid, and it is also like a dancer turning her skirt and dancing, also known as the dancing orchid, and according to legend, when Song Meiling visited the White House, she saw that the flowers of the Wenxin orchid resembled the Chinese character "auspicious", so she named it Jixiang Orchid (Figure 2).

There are three main types of Wenxin orchid, the original leaf type, the thin leaf type and the sword leaf type, the original leaf and the sword leaf type are relatively rare, and we see the thin-leaf type in the flower market every day, and this time I will only share the conservation experience related to the thin-leaved variety (Figure 3). The bulb, commonly known as the bulb, is a metamorphosed fleshy stem of the orchid family, which is not only an important part of the storage of water and nutrients, but also a sign of maturity. The immature false bulb is encased in the leaf (Figure 5) and cannot be seen or touched, and only when the false bulb bulges out of the leaf layer means that the seedling is mature and begins to develop flower stalks. Healthy pseudobulbs, round, full and shiny, slightly translucent to the sun, like a green grape. The pseudobulb that gave birth to the bud will wrinkle slightly (Figure 6), which is a normal phenomenon of nutrient depletion, indicating that the accumulated nutrients are transported to the flower, which is one of the times when the army is used for a thousand days. Raising it well and fattening it is the key to the flowering and bursting of Wenxin orchid.

How to raise fat fake bulbs?
The key is to nourish the roots. It can't be unpotted during the flowering period, but it is better to pull it out to show the root system of a healthy orchid (Fig. 7). Any plant, only with good roots, can there be good leaves and flowers, and root cultivation is the source of everything. The root system of the orchid is a delicate, fleshy root, and if it is accidentally dried thoroughly, the fleshy part of the root filament will completely empty and rot when exposed to water (Figure 8), so the core point of root cultivation is not to dry it thoroughly. Regarding the maintenance of roots and pseudobulbs, there are the following points:

I. Planting
Even though I use pure water moss planting material, I now have to water it three times a week when the roots are full. Small seedling stage and just changed the pot of seedlings, the frequency of watering is good, the large seedling period is more entangled, if it is bark, blue stone or other planting materials that are easy to dry, just watering will be big, if you go out for a few days on holidays, it is unimaginable.
2. Watering
The moss is slightly damp to the touch, and it is time to water, depending on the feel of the planting material, there is no fixed frequency. If you are worried about the rotten roots of the water, you can water a little less, a small amount and many times, and you must not dry it out and then water it. According to my actual experience, as long as Wen Xinlan is in the right environment, the root system will basically not rot, and only dry and empty roots will rot.
3. Illumination
Indoor maintenance, more sunshine, always put in the center of the sun at home. The leaves may be yellowish and have black spots (Figure 9), but if they are ugly, cut off a little bit to not affect the health of the plant.

Fourth, temperature
It doesn't matter if it's hot in summer, although the information of thin-leaved Wenxin orchid says that it likes a cool climate, but it has actually been maintained for several years, and it has not been deliberately cooled down in summer, and its growth has not been affected. In winter, I have no concept of cold tolerance to a few degrees, but flower friends in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai have reported that they can grow very well in the south-facing indoor sun and watering a small amount many times in winter.
Fifth, basins
Qingshan basin is the most cost-effective choice for use at present, moisturizing and breathable, good-looking, cheap, light and durable. This pot uses a 12 cm diameter, the root system is already full, and after this wave of flowers is finished, it will be replaced with a 15 cm one.
When can I repot?
There are two important signs, one is that the night temperature is above 10°C, and the other is that there are obvious new sprouts emitting. Needless to say, the temperature is not to say, of course, it is the best in the case of suitable growth, and there are new seedling buds to change the pot, because Wen Xinlan only new shoots will grow new roots, and changing the pot will inevitably cause damage to the old roots, even if there is no damage, if there is no new shoots to produce new roots, replace with larger pots and more planting materials, but the root system is still the previous volume, which will only add to the risk of rotten roots, and there is no positive effect of increasing the increase.
6. Planting
The pseudobulb of the orchid is more susceptible to decay, so it should be slightly raised when potted so that the false bulb is higher than the mouth of the pot (Fig. 10) to facilitate the dispersion of water and only allow the roots in the planting material to retain moisture.

If the pot mouth is higher and not easy to expose, you can first depot the whole plant, and pad some large granular materials such as ceramsite, volcanic stone, bark and other large granular materials at the bottom of the pot, and then put it back into the original pot, and change the pot after flowering.

7. Fertilizer
There is no special fertilizer, when watering other plants, I also water Wen Xinlan a little, and I use tap water every day. Wait for the next pot change, I will add a little orchid special slow-release fertilizer to the planting material, and it's okay if you don't want to add it, fertilizer is not important.
8. Rotten balls
False bulb infected with soft rot, also called rotten ball, because its interior is a whole, no peduncle to separate, and nutritious and watery, especially conducive to the spread of bacteria, so as long as there is a little bit of softened water, it will quickly spread to the entire ball, so once a local rotten ball is found, it should be removed immediately, and be careful not to drip the rotten juice to other locations, it is easy to cause infection, if it accidentally drops, it should be quickly rinsed and wiped dry.
Wenxinlan rarely has other pests and diseases, and the most harmful is soft rot, the main cause of which is non-ventilation, which can be avoided by improving ventilation conditions. Of the more than a dozen pots of Wenxin orchid in my house, only two pots have been sick when they have just arrived at home, and there is no disease in the follow-up, and no other plants have been infected.
IX. Flower Celebration
The purpose of raising false bulbs is to see the flowers, so let's come to the most critical flowering link.
There are two types of flowering periods: a fixed flowering period, such as the miniature orchid (Fig. 11), which blooms in autumn and winter, such as 'Perfume Beauty' (Fig. 12), which blooms in summer and autumn, and an irregular flowering period, such as the 'cherry tomato' that has just emerged (Fig. 13), which blooms in summer and is now blooming soon.

If the flowering conditions are not triggered, there is no way to differentiate the flower buds, so there will be a special situation where the false bulb is mature but there is no peduncle. For the fixed flowering period of Wenxin orchid, the cost of artificial control is high, we can not use air conditioning to control the temperature every day like the orchid field, we can only try our best to maintain it, and see the flowers with the fate.
As long as the new shoots mature and the false bulb begins to expand, there will be flower stalks, so there is a chance to bloom all year round, and if it is raised strong enough and there are enough new shoots, it is also possible to continue flowering throughout the year. Finally, let's talk about the fragrance of Wen Xinlan.
In general, the smaller the flower, the better it smells, and the darker the color, the better it smells, among which the chocolate series and the mini Wenxin orchid series have the strongest fragrance.
Chocolate Wenxin Orchid refers to a series of varieties with dark red flowers, with different fragrances, but the common characteristics are large flowers and rich and pleasant fragrance. Mini Wenxin Orchid, also known as Dream Orchid, is fragrant in all colors, and at noon in the sun after the flowers bloom for two or three days, the fragrance reaches its peak, and the sweet and creamy flavor makes people intoxicated.

No matter what kind of orchid is large, colorful, or fragrant, it is the type that is easy to burst flowers (Fig. 14), and it will always live up to the efforts of flower lovers.
