In February 1903, a cry came from the Chen family in Xiangxiang County, Hunan. On this day, Chen Yihuai, the general of the Hunan army who was disarmed and returned to the field, was overjoyed to have his eldest grandson. No one would have imagined that in a few decades, this child would grow up to become a famous general of the People's Liberation Army. This child is Chen Geng.

Chen Geng grew up listening to his grandfather's battle stories since he was a child, and the thrilling and moving stories made Chen Geng have a strong interest in being a soldier and fighting, pestering his grandfather and grandmother to learn martial arts. Under the strict requirements of his grandmother, Chen Geng practiced a solid kung fu.

With a good martial arts, coupled with a smart and clever mind, Chen Geng soon became the "doll head" in the village, and whoever was bullied came to him, and he went to find someone to settle accounts without saying a word. Therefore, the naughty and domineering children in the village did not dare to be too wild in front of Chen Geng.

When Chen Geng was six years old, his family hired a private school teacher to teach him to read, but Chen Geng was very tired of this rote memorization of scriptures, and often engaged in some pranks to resist the teacher's reprimand. And every time after the prank, Chen Geng's father always scolded loudly:

"By the time you're sixteen, I'm going to kick you out of the house!"

However, although Chen Geng was naughty when he was a teenager, his homework did not fall behind at all, and those rote memorization scriptures could not stop him at all. When Chen Geng reached the age of 13, the boring private school life finally ended, and Chen Geng came to Dongshan Higher Primary School, 20 miles away from home.

In addition to traditional subjects, Higashiyama Elementary School also has courses such as nature, English, and music, and several teachers who have returned from studying abroad continue to introduce students to the outside world. After Chen Geng entered Dongshan Primary School, he gained a sense of freshness and relief from freedom.

However, this pleasant study life lasted only one year before it was interrupted. Chen Geng's family, in accordance with rural customs, insisted that Chen Geng marry a girl two years older than him. At that time, Chen Geng had already been exposed to new ideas, and he was very disgusted with arranged marriages, and he never recognized this family business.

But where is this matter where Chen Geng, who was only 14 years old at the time, can have the final say, taking advantage of Chen Geng's holiday at home, the family insisted on marrying them. thought that Chen Geng would be able to die if he got married, but he didn't expect that on the wedding night, Chen Geng picked up the baggage that had been prepared and quietly left home, taking his first step on the road of revolution.

Chen Geng's running away from home caused an uproar in the Chen family, and at the same time left a deep impression on one person, that person was the shepherd boy of Chen Geng's family, Lu Dongsheng.

Lu Dongsheng is 5 years younger than Chen Geng, and when he was 7 years old, his grandmother sent him to the Chen family as a shepherd boy. Chen Geng often played with Lu Dongsheng in his spare time, and the two became good friends who talked about everything. Later, Chen Geng left home to study, and every time he came back, he had to tell Lu Dongsheng what he saw and heard at school, which broadened Lu Dongsheng's horizons.

Therefore, not long after Chen Geng left, Lu Dongsheng also left the Chen family and began a life of wandering work. A teenage child working outside naturally will not be treated well by the boss, and after being cheated on several wages, Lu Dongsheng came up with the idea of becoming a soldier.

In 1925, Lu Dongsheng joined Tang Shengzhi's army. After the Northern Expedition of the National Revolutionary Army, Tang Shengzhi's troops were reorganized, and Lu Dongsheng became a soldier of the National Revolutionary Army. In Wuhan, Lu Dongsheng saw Chen Geng again, and Chen Geng was already the commander of the special service battalion at this time, so he transferred Lu Dongsheng to his side as a guard.

After Chiang Kai-shek's rebellion and revolution, Chen Geng was forced to hand over the special service battalion. According to the party's arrangement, Lu Dongsheng escorted Zhou Enlai to Nanchang with Chen Geng, and then participated in the Nanchang Uprising. After the rebel army went south, Chen Geng went to He Long's unit as a battalion commander, and Lu Dongsheng served as Chen Geng's adjutant.

In a battle, Chen Geng was unfortunately shot in the leg, Lu Dongsheng quickly rescued Chen Geng, and has been taking good care of him to Shantou. After the defeat of the rebel army, they evacuated overnight, and the messenger did not find the clinic where Chen Geng was for a while, so Chen Geng, Lu Dongsheng and the troops were separated.

With the help of Lu Dongsheng, Chen Geng came to Hong Kong and finally found a clinic, but the doctor saw that it was a gunshot wound and immediately turned them away. At that time, Hong Kong was not searched tightly, and after discussing with Chen Geng, Lu Dongsheng decided to go to Shanghai to find the Party Central Committee.

Lu Dongsheng and Chen Geng took a boat all the way north to Shanghai, Chen Geng treated his injured leg with the help of Song Qingling, and Lu Dongsheng stayed in the Central Special Branch to take charge of transportation tasks. After He Long proposed to go to Xiangxi to establish a base area, the Party Central Committee decided to send Lu Dongsheng to escort He Long to Jiangxi.

In January 1928, He Long and his party of ten people boarded a freighter bound for Yichang. When passing through Guanyinzhou, He Long knew that there were often regimental defenses here that extorted and extorted the people, so he decided to take the plan and seize the armament of Guanyinzhou's regimental defense. When the ship docked at Guanyinzhou, He Long and his entourage went straight to the regimental defense station with a smile.

At that time, He Long was dressed as a big capitalist, and the sentry regiment thought that a big official was coming, so he hurriedly notified the captain to come out to greet him. After He Long calmly "reviewed" the regimental defense, he grabbed the hand of the regimental defense captain and took off his sunglasses:

"Don't you know me? I'm He Long, and I'm here to 'borrow a gun' from you. ”

Although the captain of the regimental defense had never seen He Long, he had already heard of He Long's reputation, and he immediately trembled with fright. Lu Dongsheng stood beside He Long, glanced around vigilantly, and suddenly saw a regiment member raise his gun, and immediately took out his gun and knocked it down with a single shot.

Everyone else was shocked by Lu Dongsheng's actions, and the people who came with He Long rushed forward to collect all the weapons of the regimental defense. Many years later, He Long recalled the experience of "borrowing a gun" back then, and couldn't help but say in admiration: "Dongsheng's shot was good and made a contribution, this merit is not small!"

Since then, He Long has more trust in Lu Dongsheng, always taking him with him, and living with him is inseparable.

In 1928, after He Long had raised a team in his hometown, he lost contact with the former party secretary, so he decided to send Lu Dongsheng to Shanghai to seek instructions from the Party Central Committee on the establishment of a base area. After listening to Lu Dongsheng's report, the Central Committee immediately sent people to He Long to send instructions, and at the same time, the Hunan Provincial Party Committee was broken, and the Central Committee decided to send Lu Dongsheng to help rebuild the provincial party committee organs.

In the months that followed, the central government sent people to deliver letters to Xiangxi several times, but without success. It happened that Lu Dongsheng returned to Shanghai, and the central government decided to let Lu Dongsheng go to Xiangxi. After many difficulties and dangers, Lu Dongsheng finally brought the instructions of the central government to Xiangxi, at this time He Long had already failed twice, and there were not many troops left, but after receiving the instructions of the central government, everyone still cheered.

After Lu Dongsheng passed the news several times in Shanghai and Xiangxi, He Long quickly re-assembled the team in accordance with the instructions of the central government. In order to facilitate his work, He Long asked that Lu Dongsheng be kept by his side, and the central authorities immediately issued instructions, agreeing that Lu Dongsheng would no longer serve as a traffic officer and would stay in the Red Army to work.

With Lu Dongsheng by his side, He Long eliminated Gan Zhanyuan's troops, smashed the enemy's "encirclement and suppression", formed the Xiangxi Independent Division, and created the revolutionary base area in western Hunan and Hubei.

In 1931, since Xia Xi came to the base area in western Hunan and Hubei, not only was the team downsized, but a large number of good cadres were also killed by him, and the revolutionary cause suffered huge losses, but Xia Xi was still obsessed and disbanded the party organization despite everyone's opposition, which put everyone in danger of the Red Army.

Xia Xi wanted to rectify He Long several times, but He Long pushed him back, and he also wanted to rectify Lu Dongsheng, but he couldn't catch the handle.

Later, after the two divisions of the Red Third Army acted separately, Xia Xi proposed to act with Lu Dongsheng on the grounds that he and Lu Dongsheng were both from Hunan. When Lu Dongsheng asked Xia Xi to lead the non-combatants to cross the river quickly, Xia Xi was stopped by the river after the flash flood.

When Lu Dongsheng arrived at the river, he found that Xia Xi had not crossed the river with his people, so he was immediately angry, pointed at Xia Xi and scolded, and then commanded the troops to cross the river quickly. Since then, Xia Xi knew that without Lu Dongsheng, he would not be able to command the troops at all, so he was in awe of Lu Dongsheng.

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Lu Dongsheng was appointed as the first brigade commander of the 358 Brigade, and later because of physical reasons, Lu Dongsheng was transferred to the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University to study, and then the organization decided to let Lu Dongsheng go to the Soviet Union to study while recuperating from illness.

In 1939, Lu Dongsheng, who had basically recovered his health, asked to return to China to participate in the anti-Japanese war, and Ren Bishi told him that the country needed a group of senior commanders who could adapt to regular warfare, and the organization decided to let him stay in the Soviet Union.

Two years later, Lu Dongsheng graduated from school and was eager to return to China to serve, but unfortunately the outbreak of the Soviet-German war forced Lu Dongsheng to stay in the Soviet Union and become a major officer in the Soviet Red Army. After the Soviet Union declared war on Japan, Lu Dongsheng was able to return to China, first to Changchun and then to Harbin.

At that time, the situation in the northeast was very complicated, and the Eighth Route Army had not yet entered in large numbers, and the order was extremely chaotic. After Chen Yun and other leaders of the Northeast Bureau arrived in Harbin, the North Manchurian Branch of the Northeast Bureau was immediately established. In order to ensure Chen Yun's safety, Lu Dongsheng volunteered to pick up Chen Yun's luggage.

When Lu Dongsheng took a guard to get his luggage on the way back, he encountered several Soviet soldiers robbing passers-by. The straightforward Lu Dongsheng immediately stepped forward and showed his documents, asked them in Russian which unit they belonged to, and severely reprimanded them for their behavior.

Those Soviet soldiers did not expect to meet the officers, knowing that they had caused a big disaster, in order to escape punishment, they moved the idea of killing people and killing people. At that time, Lu Dongsheng thought that the Soviet army was a friendly army and was defenseless, so at the moment when the Soviet soldiers shot at Lu Dongsheng and Lu Dongsheng fell, he shouted at the guards: "Run!"

When the bad news of Lu Dongsheng's sacrifice came, Chen Yun and others were so grief-stricken that they immediately sent people to negotiate with the Soviet army. Although the Soviet generals ordered the arrest of the soldiers, they did not succeed in the end. He Long, who was far away in Jinsui, couldn't help crying and sighing again and again when he learned of Lu Dongsheng's sacrifice, and Chen Geng was also grieved when he learned about it.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the government erected a monument for Lu Dongsheng's tomb in the martyr's cemetery, and He Long personally inscribed the inscription. Every time Chen Geng saw He Long, he always mentioned Lu Dongsheng, and said regretfully:

"If he lives, at least a general. ”
