Selected Poems of Merrick|I lie on this spring hill, and the white clouds become my wings

E.F. Merrick (1804-1875) was a famous German poet and novelist. Most of the poems in his Collected Poems praise nature, some are lyric and narrative ballads written in the style of folk songs, and some are humorous idylls and pastorals.

In the spring

Merrick (Germany)

I lie on this spring hill:

The white clouds have become my wings,

A little bird flew ahead of me.

Ah, tell me, lonely girl,

Where are you, let me stay with you!

But you and the wind, you are all homeless.

My heart is open like a sunflower,

In love with

Hopefully

yearning and expanding,

What are your hopes for spring?

When will I be quiet?

I saw the white clouds moving, the rivers rushing,

The golden kiss of the sun

deep into my blood;

My wonderfully drunk eyes

As if in a sleep,

Only my ears are still listening to the buzzing of the bees.

I think about this, think about that, think a lot,

I am longing, but I don't know what I am longing for;

Half is sorrow, half is joy;

My heart, oh, I ask you,

In the shadow of the golden branches

What memories are you weaving?

- The indescribable days of the past!

Dedicated to a loved one

Merrick (Germany)

When I am deeply satisfied with your gaze,

There is no objection to your divine worth,

Then I heard the gentle breath of an angel,

The angel is hidden in your body,

A suspicious smile floated on my lips,

I can't help but ask myself if I was deceived by sweet dreams,

Now my only bold hope,

and in thee it is fulfilled with eternal contentment.

My mind fell deeper from the depths,

From the darkness of God in the distance, I hear

The fountain of fate rings very pleasantly.

I was dazed and lifted my eyes

Look up to the sky - all the stars are laughing,

I knelt down and listened to their singing of light.

咏一幅古画

Merrick (Germany)

A verdant midsummer scenery,

By the cool waters, by the reeds,

Look, that innocent child

Playing freely on the girl's lap!

And over there, in the midst of a pleasant forest

There are already tree trunks made of crosses thriving!

At the edge of the forest

Merrick (Germany)

I can lie on the edge of the woods, on the grass,

Listen to the cuckoo cry, spend a long afternoon;

It seemed to take that valley with its lamentation

Comfortably sink into the tranquil Harmony Sleep.

I feel happy that those ugly faces of society,

To make me perfunctory is the greatest pain,

And here it is protected from poison,

I seek comfort in my own way.

Those of the upper class need only think of the poet first

how to spend your time skillfully,

They will become jealous of me.

Because just as I look at the vista,

At this time, the sonnets are densely garlanded

It's like it's automatically woven in my hands.
