Today, let's talk about the various professional terms on the display product promotion,And what is the impact in actual use,By the way, popularize some knowledge points that offend manufacturers,So that you can identify various discussions,Buy a display that suits you!
Hi ~ Hello everyone, I am Feifan Feifan, a home appliance digital enthusiast who has renovated 8 houses and a 2,000-square-meter office!
I believe that there is no perfect product, it has at least 1 dimension that will make some users feel that it is a disadvantage, how to show the real advantages and disadvantages of the product to everyone, to determine whether it is suitable for you, is the purpose of my sharing.
Whether it is advertising or personal experience, it is my basic principle to strive to ensure that the experience is real and objective, and I hope you will supervise it together!
The hardware is for the purpose of using the service
Let's start with the principles.
Many propaganda will focus on the panel and backlight technology used in the display, but most users can't figure out TN, IPS, and the difference between LED, mini LED, and OLED. Do you need to be a technician just to buy a monitor?
The reason why there are so many panels and backlight technologies is that various technologies have advantages and disadvantages, and everyone's audience is different, such as:
Some monitors have high frame rate, high response but low resolution, and average color accuracy;
There are first-class color accuracy and high resolution, but the frame rate and response speed are average;
Different panels and backlights are combined, with their own different advantages and disadvantages, some are suitable for game parties, some are suitable for designers, and some are suitable for other users.
Color gamut vs. color space
The three primary colors of red, green, and blue can form different colors through different combinations.
The color gamut refers to the number of colors that can be composed of the three primary colors.
Take the restaurant as an example, everyone has red, green, and blue ingredients, restaurant A can make 3 dishes through different combinations, and restaurant B can make 6 dishes, which means that the color gamut of B is wider than that of A.
At this time, guest No. 1 (camera 1), the dishes it needs to eat are 1, 2, and 3, which just happens, restaurants A and B (monitors) can meet it;
Guest No. 2 (camera 2) wants to eat five kinds of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, and only restaurant B can satisfy them;
This is the benefit of a large color gamut, which can meet the requirements of more devices and files.
My BenQ PD2705U has 99% sRGB color gamut coverage, which can meet the color PD2705U needs of all cameras and mobile phones on the market.
As for the color space, in terms of displays, the sRGB, NTSC, Adobe RGB, etc. we usually see should be called color spaces correctly.
It defines the criteria for different colors, black is what black is, red is red like this.
Doesn't that sound abstract?
Let's continue with the example of a restaurant.
All three restaurants have "burgers" but different tastes, so they set a standard of A for light taste, B for heavy taste, and C for medium taste, and people want to eat burgers in the future, as long as they express the ABC style.
This is the color space, which defines the definition and range of colors in different color spaces (the light and heavy taste of the burger) (the ingredients, proportions and details of the burger).
At present, on the market, the display likes to mark the color space parameters most mainly the above four, which makes people very troublesome to choose.
It is recommended to only look at the above two, as long as it does not involve printing and does not clearly require Adobe RGB requirements for productivity tools, all the remaining users choose sRGB!
If conditions permit, it is recommended to choose a product with 99-100% SRGB color gamut coverage, which can achieve this level, not to mention other standards.
Of course, some businesses will confuse the color gamut volume, the maximum value of color gamut coverage is 100%, and the value greater than 100% is to describe the range of color gamut volume, which will lead to color oversaturation.
Summary of this chapter
In the case of displays:
The color gamut expresses the number of colors that can be displayed;
Color space defines the definition and range of colors in different color spaces.
Percentages refer to the color gamut coverage in different color spaces.
The most important thing in professional design display is the quality of the screen, which determines the color gamut and color space, and also specifically designed software and hardware for designers.
For those who take design as a productivity tool, try to choose a professionally designed monitor.
Color accuracy and brightness uniformity
Color accuracy is simply the accuracy of color.
Assuming that the value of black is 1, the more infinitely close to 1 the actual black displayed by the monitor is, the more accurate it is, then the distance from 1 is expressed by Delta E, and it will also be written as Δ, and the closer the average value of multiple colors is to 0, the higher the color accuracy of the display.
In terms of Delta E values:
ΔE=2, the human eye is basically unable to distinguish color differences;
ΔE=1, professional-grade display.
The picture above is the deviation of RGB tricolor under different brightness of another thousand-yuan display on hand, the horizontal coordinate is brightness, you can see that only 30%-40% and 75%-85% brightness are better, and RGB has some deviation under other brightness.
The brightness is 1% to 100%, and the better the display, the more complete the coverage range of high color accuracy.
What does it mean? Just a display may be 50%-70% brightness at the color accuracy is relatively high, other brightness is average, a good display may be 20%-100% brightness color accuracy is relatively high.
"ΔE<2", "ΔE<2 (average)", and "average ΔE≈2" are the common ways to write the color accuracy of promotional products in merchants.
I didn't write the average, it is likely to be the score under a certain optimal brightness, everyone should pay attention to screening~
The BenQ PD2705U I'm using has an average color calibration of ΔE<2.
Do you think that it seems to be average? This is a professional display? Many manufacturers have marked ΔE<1!
My monitor is factory calibrated
I checked the factory color calibration record of this monitor, and found that the average ΔE=0.3184, and asked another colleague of the same monitor, and his was even more exaggerated, with an average ΔE=0.2746!!
A colleague's monitor is recorded in a factory color correction
I was deeply skeptical, so I took out the X-Rite calibrator and tested it.
The measured mean ΔE=0.26.
I was very puzzled by BenQ's reverse false standard method, and asked customer service, and the customer service replied that we can ensure that the measured value of Delta for each product can be less than 2, but there will be special circumstances, such as: this machine is very good when it is produced, the measured value can be less than 0.5, and the basic situation can be less than 1, but it will be conservative in terms of publicity.
You see, the current display manufacturers do have some magic, the bold ones are very bold, the conservative ones are very conservative...
And when talking about color accuracy, brightness is always mentioned, because brightness is closely related to color accuracy.
The brightness must be as high as possible, because the brightness will be attenuated after long-term use, just buy 30% to meet daily use, and it may be 50% after three years.
But the brightness core of the display is not how much cd/㎡ or nit, because now the brightness is absolutely sufficient, and the most difficult thing is uniformity.
For example, the brightest 100 and the darkest 1, then every brightness scale between 100 and 1 is the same and smooth, and the curve should be the solid orange line in the above picture.
At present, the actual brightness curve and brightness value of many displays cannot completely coincide,For example, the brightness of the control menu is adjusted to50%,The actual brightness has reached60%The actual value,Open to20%Brightness,The actual value may be35%。
This is the main reason that affects the grayscale smoothness of the display.
Uneven light and dark (top, middle, bottom left, bottom right)
In addition, there is a serious problem of brightness uniformity, some areas are darker and some are brighter, which will also make the color inaccurate.
Brightness uniformity and uniformity are not mentioned in most product promotions, and many users do not understand an indicator. But whoever advertises this selling point is a high-quality display of a big brand.
My monitor brightness uniformity report
For example, BenQ PD series displays,When leaving the factory, each will be calibrated and attached with a test report,It includes 25 partitions of the screen brightness uniformity and color accuracy uniformity test,The remaining 24 partitions of the screen and the color accuracy of the center point The deviation is as small as possible,If it does not meet the problem, it will not be able to leave the factory directly,Perfect solution under double blessing
The problem of "color aberration" and "yin and yang screen".
Summary of this chapter
Color accuracy is the accuracy of color, and brightness uniformity will affect color accuracy, which is an important content that most product promotions do not mention, because many brands do not do a good job of balancing the two.
Therefore, if you are doing design and use, you must look at these two when choosing a display, and you can also be more assured when choosing a professional brand product, and it is the preferred standard with a factory calibration report!
Refresh rate and resolution
The refresh rate of the mobile phone jumps from 60Hz, 90Hz to 120Hz, allowing many users to experience a silky smooth experience.
So the display also has a variety of 170Hz、240HzRefresh rate publicity,All kinds of silky experience!
However, the refresh rate requires the support of the system, software, games, and videos.
At present, there are only a handful of triple-A games and very few movies that exceed 60Hz on windows computers.
High-frame games also need first-class consoles to cooperate, and it is basically impossible to play without more than 10,000 yuan, and the price of high-frame-rate monitors is also higher, not everyone has this need.
To sum it up:
For the average user who doesn't have the need for high-frame-rate gaming, a 60Hz monitor will fully meet the requirements.
Don't be fooled by the silky smoothness of the high frame rate advertised by the merchants!
The resolution determines the clarity of the picture.
For example, a diagonal line is significantly smaller at 20*20 resolution than at 10*10 resolution, whether zoomed in or out. At the same size, the higher the pixel, the clearer, for example, 1920*1080 is not bad at 19 inches, and the mosaic is clearly visible to the naked eye on 27 inches.
At present, 27-inch and 32-inch are the two mainstream resolutions, and I recommend that you only use 4K (3840*2160) resolution (users who pursue high frame rate games ignore this).
27 and 32 inches in 4K, the basic naked eye viewing situation is similar to the above two, there will not be much difference.
Many businesses use 19-inch or even 17-inch screens to shoot on the promotional pages of 1080P or 2K resolution products, which naturally look very clear.
If 24 inches is the best choice of 2K, followed by 1080P.
Summary of this chapter
For the average user who doesn't have the need for high-frame-rate gaming, a 60Hz monitor will fully meet the requirements.
As for the resolution, 27-inch and 32-inch should be 4K resolution as much as possible, and 24-inch and below should be 1080P or 2K (except for gamers).
Professional Monitors - What Other Designs Are There?
Eye care, are you doing it right?
The damage to the eyes of the monitor mainly comes from the following three points:
1. Strobe;
2. Blu-ray;
3. Brightness;
The first and second points have special Rheinland certification, and everyone chooses to have certification.
It is important to emphasize that blue light itself does not cause direct damage to the eyes, but blue light induces the brain to use the computer for a longer period of time, which is the core of the eyes.
And the brightness is very easy to understand, with a high-brightness display in a completely dark environment, anyone is blind when they look at it. The greater the difference between the brightness of the display and the brightness of the environment, the more susceptible it is to fatigue/hurt the eyes.
There are two things involved here, one is the automatic brightness adjustment of the display, and the other is the convenience of manually adjusting the brightness.
There is a lot of content involved in automatic brightness adjustment,It will be related to color accuracy, etc.,And there are very few displays with this technology,At present, I have only seen it in a small number of professional-grade displays such as BenQ,I will not expand the routine here for the time being,It is necessary to open a special article to talk about it when you go back。
Here is specifically talking about brightness adjustment, codewords (low brightness), photo and video retouching (medium brightness), watching movies and playing games (high brightness), different content uses different brightness, which is the greatest protection for the eyes.
Let's talk about the German Rheinland certification mentioned in many display devices, in fact, Rheinland certification is a certification company, it has a lot of certifications, our common low blue light certification, low blue light certification, no screen flash certification are one of them, and there are several certifications related to eye protection, many companies may do a kind and then advertise the German Rhine eye protection certification....
And in recent years, in addition to many new combinations of Rheinland certification, the more famous is Eyesafe certification.
There are Chinese pages for Rheinland certification, you can click here to query, you can search for the type of certification obtained according to your product model, and the PD2705U I use is still quite a lot of certifications after searching.
Just click on a few to include low emission, no screen flicker, low blue light, etc.
You can search and see what you want to buy, and see how many certifications there are.
Better control
As mentioned earlier, different applications use different brightness, so it is necessary to adjust the brightness and mode of the display frequently.
But now most of the monitor's menu function keys are anti-human design in terms of position, menu logic, and button feel.
This point is highlighted by the BenQ small hot disk controller, which can control the parameters of the display very flexibly, and can also have multiple custom color modes to switch with one click, including different input ports can also be switched with one click, with the PIP/PBP function to achieve split-screen work, it is not too convenient.
For example, to adjust the brightness, you can quickly adjust the brightness ratio by directly rotating the knob.
If one monitor is used for multiple devices at the same time, for example, I have a computer console and a PS5. A switch with three device inputs, switching is very convenient, and you can't go back after using a small hot disk.
Paired with professional software
You can adjust the settings, colors and desktop partitions through the official special software, which is a feature only available to major professional display manufacturers.
For example, my BenQ PD2705U has Colortalk and Displaypilot, and there are Win and Mac versions respectively.
With the cooperation of software, factory gradual calibration, and exclusive color technology, the full-link color accuracy is truly realized, whether it is personal use or team collaboration, different computers and devices do not need to be tossed, and "zero communication barriers" can be achieved in the creation of displays.
Ergonomic design
What is the ergonomics of the display?
A support base that can be raised and lowered and rotated left and right.
Even upright is not a problem.
It also comes with wire storage, which is convenient and tidy.
What do I use myself?
Because I have several computers, I also have a lot of monitors.
比如这台明基PD2705U。
It is a 27-inch 4K monitor, 99% SRGB coverage, up to 60, it is my retouching, video cutting, coding and other productivity tools, using KVM function, a set of keyboard and mouse can control multiple devices at the same time, watch station B in your spare time, American dramas, movies.
PD2705U owns 99% sRGB. The brightness is 250cd/㎡, no matter day or night, it is enough to open to 35% brightness in the study retouching and code words, and it is a little tired to brighten the eyes a little more.
The score of color accuracy has been mentioned above,The average color calibration of the factoryΔE=0.3184,I use the color calibrator to measure the average ΔE=0.26,In the software DisplayCAL, the white point matching link,Direct red, green and blue are completely matched,No additional adjustment is required,This is the only one of the seven or eight monitors in my hand that can achieve this level。
In terms of eye protection, BenQ has a number of Rheinland eye care certifications, including low blue light, low radiation, no screen flicker, etc. Moreover, with a small hot disk that is very convenient to operate, it can be easily switched under the three brightness requirements of codeword, retouching, and entertainment, which is very convenient.
For MAC users, there is a dedicated M-book mode + Display Colortalk for Mac software.
The biggest advantage of BenQ PD2705U is that there is not much difference in color between multiple BenQ PD series monitors of the same company, ensuring the consistency of color accuracy of the entire team's workflow and the full-link color accuracy to the terminal output, which is very rare as a productivity tool.
The core of this article is to explain to you how to look at the display parameters,And what are some of them are unnecessary,I hope it will bring you some help to buy a monitor,Choose the right one,It is the greatest protection for the eyes,It is also the greatest protection for the wallet。
That's all for today~
