This kind of life tethered by a ship, Qin Dayi has lived for 27 years. His grandfather and father were both captains, and in the family of three generations of boats, the captains followed the same creed, the boat is an ancestral craft, it is all the family goods, and the boat is the first place.
In the winter of 1995, Qin Dayi owned his first ship, which was the "Hongfa" left to him by his father. His father's name was Qin Shaohong, and the ship was named after him. This is a collection boat, the hull is small, mainly used to carry the villagers to catch the market.
Qin Dayi was on the boat when his father had an accident. On that day, from Yudong to Wuyang to catch the market, on the way to pick up passengers, there was suddenly a thick fog, the visibility was very low, and the ship was about to dock at Majipo to avoid danger, when a large cargo ship drove over. At that time, there was almost no equipment on board, and the captain of the cargo ship mistakenly thought that his father's ship was a buoy ship, and accidentally crashed into it.
The boat was wrecked. Father ran out of the wheelhouse, looked around and didn't see Qin Dayi, he climbed on top of the big boat, thinking that it was easier to find it by standing on a high place, and in the process of climbing up, the big boat moved again, and it hit his father's chest. Yuan Yuan remembered that whenever Qin Dayi recalled the situation that day, he would always say, "If it wasn't for me, it might not be so serious."
After his father left, Qin Dayi's family went to the county to participate in the accident mediation, but there was no one at home, and the captain of the village brigade assigned his family's homestead to someone else. In 2003, the government required passenger ships to be replaced by paddle machines, and Qin Dayi bought a second ship, "Baozhu No. 1", on which Yuan Yuan grew up. Yuan Yuan has a scar on his forehead, when he was a child, he was running and playing on the boat and accidentally fell off the deck, when the water level was low and the shore was full of stones.

In 2018, the two companies jointly bought the current larger "Yuzhongke 2180".
More than a decade ago, land transportation was inaccessible, and water transportation was the main way for locals to get around. In windy weather, the cable will sometimes be blown off, and the boat will be blown away, so living on the ship can check in time to reduce losses. Among the two families in the partnership, only Qin Dayi can drive the boat, and if he really encounters a problem, only he can drive the boat back. Except for the maintenance of passenger ships, the running ship only rests on Chinese New Year's Eve and the first day or two of the new year throughout the year, even if the ship does not sail for these two days, Qin Dayi will return to the ship at night.
Captaining has become a job that "can't get out of the way". When visiting relatives during the New Year, he will focus on Chinese New Year's Eve or the first day of the new year. "I don't have time to go, I'm going to sail in the second year of junior high school. ”

In the summer, the sailing departs at 6:30 a.m., and the boat is basically full at 6 o'clock, and sometimes the villagers even have to grab tickets to buy tickets.
Unfortunately, the good times did not last long, at the end of 2016, the Yanjiang Expressway through Yangdu Town was opened to traffic, and the bus from the town to the county seat was shortened from more than 2 hours to 50 minutes. In addition, the people in the town are slowly moving to the county seat, and there are fewer and fewer people staying in the town.
The passenger liner business is getting worse day by day. In 2018, the number of passenger ships on the Yangdu-Zhongxian route was reduced from 10 to 2, and the income from running boats at this time could basically cover the oil money. After the Spring Festival in 2020, another passenger ferry was suspended due to poor management, and only "Yuzhong Ke 2180" was left on the bustling river, and in many cases, even 600 yuan of fuel was not enough for a boat.
"It used to be full of people on the docks, and now you want someone else to sit on it. Cao Lifang remembers that on a rainy day, there were only two or three passengers in the entire terminal. There were few passengers on the boat, she was idle and had nothing to do, and asked Qin Dayi with a wry smile: "Where can I borrow the fuel money next month?" In the past ten years of the partnership, the fuel cost has been rising, but the ferry ticket has never risen, they are worried that there will be fewer people who originally sit, and if the price rises again, no one will come to sit.
The boat can't catch up with the car, and they are left behind by the times, and those who can't keep up with the pace of the times are those left-behind old people in the countryside.
Zhongxian County belongs to a typical hilly landform, mountainous and sloping land, low level of mechanization, it is difficult to carry out large-scale planting, here is rich in vegetables, from Yangdu to the county seat by boat, scattered small fields can be seen everywhere along the way. The elderly do not ride motorcycles and electric cars, and can only walk to get to the bus.
