"Compared with high-value medical consumables such as cardiac intervention, artificial joints, and other organ interventional alternatives, the single price of low-value medical consumables is not high, but they are widely used, and the price reduction can benefit the majority of patients. Chen Hongyan, secretary general of the Medical Supplies Branch of the China International Travel Health Care Association, told reporters that some of the products purchased by the medical consumables are clinically necessary, and the hospitals and patients covered are a huge number.
The alliance centralized procurement is jointly participated by public medical institutions in Guangdong, Inner Mongolia, Guizhou, Qinghai, Jiangxi and other alliance regions, and the procurement categories are all low-value consumables, including 9 categories such as disposable intravenous indwelling needles and disposable vacuum blood collection tubes. The average reduction rate of this centralized procurement is 45.69%, and the highest decrease is 89.6%, and it is expected to save more than 1.042 billion yuan in procurement funds every year.
In recent years, the domestic low-value consumables industry has developed rapidly. According to data from Caixin Securities, the domestic low-value consumables market will be about 155 billion yuan in 2023 and is expected to reach 221.3 billion yuan in 2025, with a growth rate higher than the global average growth rate.
Centralized procurement of low-value consumables has been carried out in many places across the country. Inner Mongolia recently announced the implementation time of centralized procurement, and will implement a batch of consumables from 0:00 on January 26, including coronary guide wires, coronary dilatation balloons, coronary drug balloons, dura (spinal) membranes and hernia patches, disposable intravenous indwelling needles, heparin caps, infusion connection lines, needle-free connectors, and disposable blood transfusion sets.
On January 10, the results of Jiangxi's 6 types of low-value consumables were released. Among them, a total of 358 products of surgical films, disposable sputum suction tubes and disposable nebulizers have completed online quotations, and the average price of the selected products has been reduced by about 69.89%, and it is expected to save about 3,000 yuan per year. A total of 101 products of blood glucose test strips, insulin pen syringes and insulin pen needles have completed online quotations, and the average price of the selected products has been reduced by about 71.83%, and it is expected to save about 7,900 yuan per year.
On January 2, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei "3+N" alliance announced the results of the registration and material declaration of 28 kinds of centralized procurement of medical consumables. Bids for this large-scale alliance will open on January 31. Among them, low-value consumables include medical glue, hemostatic clips, hemostatic powder, hemostatic gauze, hemostatic sponge, hemostatic non-woven fabrics, etc., and the participating provinces involve Anhui, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Liaoning, Tibet, Xinjiang, Yunnan, etc.
Chen Hongyan said that the previous high-value medical consumables with volume procurement greatly alleviated the economic pressure of patients, although the unit price of low-value medical consumables is low, but the amount is large, is a medical demand. In the future, various localities may further explore the centralized procurement mode of low-value medical consumables.
