The response from the outside world has been very positive. Many people believe that this is the key point in the relaxation of Sino-US relations, and that China and the United States may return to the situation of "fighting but not breaking." However, it is understood that the meeting did not achieve the desired results of the two sides, and Sullivan's request was not responded to by the Chinese side, and similarly, the US side did not agree to Wang Yi's request. In this regard, Wang Yi directly gave an ultimatum!
Sullivan's request is for China to intervene in the Red Sea blockade, and the Houthis have publicly stated that as long as it is a Chinese ship, it will be safe from attack, and China and Iran have maintained long-term friendly and cooperative relations. Therefore, in the eyes of the US side, as long as China speaks, Iran and the Houthis will no longer target the US.
In fact, if China speaks: it hopes that Iran and the Houthis will stop their attacks on the United States. First, it is an ironclad fact that China does not participate in the internal affairs of any country, and second, the United States has an unshirkable responsibility for the development of the situation in the Red Sea to the point it is today. The United States does not want to reflect on itself, but only asks China to intervene, how can China agree?
Compared with the situation in the Red Sea, the situation in the Taiwan Strait is the most important topic for China and the United States to discuss. Wang Yi mentioned the issue of "Taiwan independence" in front of Sullivan, and said with an almost "ultimatum" attitude: The factor that has the deepest impact on Sino-US relations is "Taiwan independence", and China hopes that the US side can abide by the "one-China" principle and the three China-US joint communiques, resolutely not support the "attitude", and implement it in action.
The US side did not agree to Wang Yi's request, so the Red Sea issue has not been resolved at this meeting, and the Taiwan Strait issue has not been resolved. But it doesn't matter, the Chinese side has its own way.
According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has deployed four warships around Taiwan, and it is worth mentioning that these four warships are permanently deployed and will be stationed around the Taiwan Strait for a long time. It seems that the People's Liberation Army is starting to move seriously this time.
At the same time, Japan is not idle. According to Japanese media reports, the Japanese government has recently seized the time to formulate a plan for the evacuation of overseas Chinese in order to deal with the "refugee wave" that may pour into Japan when Taiwan is reunified by force. If war breaks out in Taiwan, the areas adjacent to Japan and Taiwan may also be invaded by the flames of war, so Japan also needs to evacuate the Japanese people in the border areas. For the Japanese who are currently in Taiwan, the Japanese government also needs to make relevant plans in case of emergency.
On the issue of war in the Taiwan Strait, Japan has also made good plans, on the one hand, to meet the strategic needs of the US military, and on the other hand, to provide military assistance to the Taiwan authorities. However, once China completes the recovery of Taiwan, China will be able to settle accounts with Japan in accordance with relevant international law for such transgressions. Therefore, the Japanese side should carefully consider whether or not to continue to meddle in the Taiwan Strait issue.
