On January 31 ~ February 2, under the influence of the eastward movement of the southern branch trough, the low-level jet stream carried abundant water vapor to the north, and confronted the cold air in our province, and the rain and snow ushered in the first stage. Due to the high near-surface temperature in the early stage, precipitation will start with rain or sleet, and gradually turn to pure snow as cold air penetrates. For example, the provincial capital Zhengzhou is expected to turn to pure snow around midnight on January 31, and the snow in Luohe is on the morning of February 1, and it is a bit difficult to see snowflakes in Xinyang, the southernmost area.

On February 3rd ~ 5th, as the "land version of the typhoon" Jianghuai cyclone moved eastward and northward, this powerful "pump" will bring a lot of water vapor along the way, and the heyday of this round of rain and snow is at this stage. Since the early cooling has been in place, most areas will directly open with pure snow except for the southern part of our province. It is worth mentioning that as a frequent visitor in summer, the Jianghuai cyclone is usually accompanied by the occurrence of severe convective weather, and it is rare to appear in the middle of winter. Under the strong convection it creates, scenes of thunder and snow are likely to be staged.
