Chen Boda, formerly known as Chen Jianxiang, the word Shangyou, served as the secretary general of the great man for 30 years, was imprisoned for review in 1970, and was sentenced to 18 years in prison at the end of 1980.
His writing has been excellent
In 1904, Chen Boda was born in a family of declining intellectuals in Hui'an County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. At the age of 15, Chen Boda was admitted to Jimei Normal College founded by Chen Jiageng, a wealthy patriotic businessman, and after graduation, he returned to his hometown to teach in a primary school.
However, Chen Boda was very interested in literature, and the primary school teacher in his hometown could not satisfy Chen Boda's ideals for literature and the revolutionary cause, so he left his family and went to Shanghai to work as a journalist, and soon entered the Chinese Department of Shanghai University to study, initially accepting communist ideas.
On April 12, 1927, Chiang Kai-shek staged a coup d'état and arrested the Communists on a large scale.
The organization assigned him to Wuhan to serve as Cai Hesen's deputy, responsible for propaganda work, and soon after, because Chen Boda was highly educated, very educated, and had excellent work ability, he was sent to Sun Yat-sen University in Moscow, the Soviet Union to continue his studies.
While studying in Moscow, Chen Boda watched a foreign movie called "Spartacus", which tells the story of a gladiator leader who leads oppressed gladiators to resist.
He admired the leader of the ancient European uprising and decided to choose "Bada" as his pen name, but the two words sounded like foreigners, so he took the homonym "Boda", which is also easier to pronounce.
Since then, he has often used "Boda" as his pen name when writing articles. Gradually, people forgot his real name, but called him "Berda" all the time, and over time they got used to it.
In 1931, Chen Boda returned to China after completing his studies and worked in Tianjin, where he was responsible for the publication and editing of the magazine "Northern Red Flag", but due to the defection, Chen Boda was arrested by the Kuomintang and was not released until 1932. After the outbreak of the all-out Anti-Japanese War, Beiping quickly fell, and Chen Boda came to Yan'an and worked as a teacher at Northern Shaanxi Public School.
However, because Chen Boda's taste of Hokkien dialect was too strong, the students said that they couldn't understand it at all, Chen Boda could only write the content he wanted to talk on the blackboard, and "lecture" became "writing class", Chen Boda failed to teach, and he was really not qualified for the position of teacher, but his writing was very good, and he went to work in the propaganda department in Yan'an.
At a study meeting in northern Shaanxi, Chen Boda's speech made the great man's eyes light up, and he was very interested in his experience and talent, and after the meeting, the great man kept him and asked him many times to study history, philosophy, and literature.
The great man was very optimistic about him, and transferred him to his office to work, and became his deputy secretary-general.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, Chen Boda successively wrote many good articles such as "Commenting on the Fate of China", "Chiang Kai-shek, the Enemy of the People", and "The Four Great Families of China", especially the book "Commenting on the Fate of China", which sold 1 million copies.
Chen Boda's brilliant writing and innovative ideas made him famous not long after the article was published, and his writing was so good that Americans were full of praise when they read it. And after Chiang Kai-shek saw Chen Boda's article criticizing him in Nanjing, he was even more angry, and called Chen Boda: "Chen Zhiboda." ”
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chen Boda was still highly used, and he was responsible for the drafting and external propaganda of many national guidelines, but he gradually deviated from the path of normal development. When Chen Boda was arrested, he wanted to write a letter to the great man to explain, but he broke the great man's heart, and his letter was not sent.
Chen Boda asked someone to find Premier Zhou again, and Premier Zhou sighed, and he couldn't do anything. At this time, Chen Boda was already too deep to be saved.
Chen Boda was punished by law
After being imprisoned, Chen Boda was first relieved of all duties and detained. In 1980, Chen Boda was sentenced to 18 years in prison, but because he had already been imprisoned for 10 years, he still had eight years to serve his sentence.
In 1981, Chen Boda was in poor health and was approved for medical parole by the organization, but the leaders still took great care of Chen Boda, did not embarrass him in terms of living treatment, and took his family to his side.
Chen Boda lives in a private house in the eastern suburbs of Beijing, and although he has been released from prison, he can only move around the neighborhood and is not allowed to leave Beijing when he sees others who need to be reported. For this matter, Chen Boda is already very content.
While in prison, Chen Boda often reflected on his mistakes and often repented of what he had done. After being released on medical parole, Chen Boda had a living allowance of 200 yuan per month, which was a very good income at that time, and the workers at that time were only a few dozen yuan.
Chen Boda is very grateful for the care of the central government, his personal living habits are very good, he does not smoke or drink, he only wears old clothes, and he can save a lot of money every month.
Chen Boda is very interested in books, and often uses the money to buy books to study, especially some thread-bound books and ancient books, he often can't put them down, and often asks his son for money to buy books.
After Chen Boda's grandson was born, his daughter-in-law Zhang Lanhua took care of the family and specially handled the leave without pay. The daughter-in-law is very filial, never asks about her own life, seeing that he is old and it is inconvenient to go to the toilet in winter, she specially knitted a wool coat for his toilet, afraid that he will catch a cold.
Chen Boda was very happy to see this, watching his grandson grow up every day, often playing with his grandson, and the family enjoyed the joy of family.
Chen Boda: I just want to buy fruits
After Chen Boda was released from prison in 1988, he often stayed alone in his bedroom, wrote some memoirs, tutored his little grandson in his homework, and spent the rest of his time practicing calligraphy and reading books and newspapers. He rarely socializes with others, rarely receives visitors, and does not socialize at all.
From time to time, comrades from the Central Committee came to ask Chen Boda what he needed, but Chen Boda always said that he had no requirements, and he was embarrassed to speak.
Once, another comrade came to ask Chen Boda if he had any requirements, and Chen Boda asked in a low voice: "Can you give me some money to buy fruit, I want to eat fruit." This request made the comrades laugh and cry, they didn't expect Chen Boda to make such a request, and repeatedly agreed to Chen Boda's request, and specially allocated a sum of money for Chen Boda to buy fruits.
On September 20, 1989, Chen Boda died at home at the age of 85, less than one year after he was released from prison.
