Recently, Maersk announced a series of changes to its maritime network covering trade in India and the Middle East.

The company has opened a new round-trip route in Colombo to facilitate the transshipment of goods from the Mediterranean to and from the subcontinent. The service will be provided to Salalah, Colombo, Enor, Colombo and Salalah on a rotational basis from 5 February.

"In Colombo, we will connect to Europe via AE7 services and to the Far East via AE55 services," Maersk said in a customer consultation. "Both services include a Western Mediterranean hub, providing connectivity to Northern Europe," the company added. ”

Maersk also announced four new services to strengthen its intra-West Asia network, connecting goods from the Red Sea and the Mediterranean from the Gulf region.

Expected to commence on February 5, the Gulf service will call at Salalah (Oman), Jebel Ali (UAE), Doha (Qatar), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Jubail (Saudi Arabia), Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi (UAE), Duqm (Oman) and Salalah.

From 9 February, the Arabian Sea service will call at Salalah, Jebel Ali, Port Qasim (Pakistan), Pipavav (India), Nhava Sheva (India) and Salalah.

From 21 February, the Red Sea-Western Mediterranean route will operate Port Said (Egypt), Port of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Port of King Abdullah (Saudi Arabia), Port Said (Egypt), Barcelona (Spain), Port of Tangier (Morocco), Algeciras (Spain), Port Vado (Italy) and Port Said.

Since 18 February, the Red Mediterranean service features port rotations to Jeddah, Port Said, Port Tangier and Port Said.

Maersk expects longer transit times on its AE5, AE10 and AE6 routes, with no change in ports of call on these routes. Other changes include the AE7 service skipping Jeddah, omitting King Salalah and Abdullah (eastbound) and adding Colombo on AE55.
