author:Weiminglin Education Notes

After three years of waiting, the "National Science and Technology Award" has finally been launched, the major awards have entered the nomination and candidacy stage, and another batch of major scientific research achievements and their creators are about to be commended. Among them, the most high-profile 2023 "National Highest Science and Technology Award" has received a total of 13 nominations, all of whom are leaders in their respective fields. Among them is He Jishan, a top applied geophysicist in China and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Candidate for the 2023 National Supreme Science and Technology Award

Academician He Jishan is a native of Hunan Province who has served at Central South University for decades and is proposed by Hunan Province to nominate candidates for the 2023 National Supreme Science and Technology Award. He has devoted his life to the research and personnel training of geophysical theories, methods and technologies and observation systems, and has been widely affirmed by peers at home and abroad.

The growth was bumpy and the geological exploration was accidentally encountered

Born in 1934, He Jishan is already in his old age this year, and he has devoted his whole life to applied geophysics. However, his relationship with geological exploration began by accident.

When He Jishan was a child, his life was very difficult. When he was 6 years old, He Jishan, who was in the second grade of primary school, wandered around with his parents because of the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, I finally looked forward to the opportunity to study steadily, but I had to drop out of school and work because of family constraints. However, the poverty of life did not extinguish his thirst for knowledge, and he always took every opportunity he could to learn.

At the age of 18, He Jishan entered Xiangdong tungsten mine to engage in mineral sand inspection, which accidentally opened his lifelong fate with exploration and prospecting. There, he devoted himself to the study of mining and metallurgy, humbly learned the knowledge of mineral sand inspection from his predecessors, and soon became a well-known inspection expert in the unit.

In 1956, the rallying cry of "marching towards science and technology" was sounded in China, and countless enthusiastic young people devoted themselves to the study of modern scientific knowledge. After years of preparation, He Jishan was successfully admitted to the Department of Geophysical Prospecting of Changchun Institute of Geology, majoring in metal physical exploration, and finally realized his dream of studying in college.

After graduating from Changchun Institute of Geology, He Jishan was assigned to teach in the Department of Geology of Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (now Central South University). At that time, the Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy was the center of the leading non-ferrous metal mining and metallurgical discipline in China, and it was not easy for 26-year-old He Jishan to become a teacher of the Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. However, the hardships he experienced in his youth, as well as the qualities of being willing to think and discover, formed on the way to becoming a talent, became an inexhaustible wealth for him on his later academic path.

He is the academic leader of applied geophysics in China

He has devoted himself to the study of geophysics for 60 years, and has made fruitful scientific research achievements in the fields of geophysical theory, methods and observation instrument systems.

He Jishan founded and developed the geoelectric field theory and instruments with "dual-frequency IP method", "wide-area electromagnetic method", "pseudo-random signal electric method" and "fitting flow field method" as the core, which have been widely and successfully applied at home and abroad. In particular, his theory and practice of dual-frequency IP have been highly praised by the academic community at home and abroad, and have been called "a major event in the field of applied geophysics in recent years".

With these research breakthroughs, He Jishan won the "National Science Conference", as well as the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Technological Invention Award and other heavyweight awards, became the academic leader of applied geophysics in China, and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

He Jishan's many major academic achievements have greatly promoted the development of mainland geology, mineral exploration, energy utilization and other fields, especially to the development of his hometown Hunan Province.

In He Jishan's life, he was enthusiastic about the economic construction of his hometown and often made suggestions for the economic development of Hunan Province. He served as the chairman of the Hunan Provincial Association for Science and Technology, and was committed to transforming a series of high-level scientific research achievements into productivity. Because he carried out and promoted shale gas research earlier, and put forward the strategic idea of "gasification Hunan", he is known as the "father of Hunan shale gas".

National Famous Teacher of Central South University

Since entering Zhongnan Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1960, He Jishan has devoted most of his time and energy to the country's mining industry and the cultivation of outstanding young students.

At Central South University, He Jishan has taught nearly 20 courses, thanks to his impressive achievements in the field of geophysics. He has solid professional knowledge and quick thinking, and often articulates esoteric and difficult professional knowledge clearly and clearly.

In order to provide students with better teaching resources, He Jishan edited and published 7 textbooks and popular science books, which are deeply loved by teachers, students and young people. His standard "Metal Mineral Electrical Exploration" and "Electric Exploration Course" won the provincial and ministerial awards, and has made important contributions to the development of domestic metal exploration disciplines and talent training for decades.

He Jishan was interviewed

He Jishan has a deep affection for Central South University. He has been engaged in science and education for more than 60 years, mainly at Central South University (formerly Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and Central South University of Technology).

During his tenure at Central South University of Technology, he founded the first geophysical doctoral program in mainland China featuring geoelectric field research, and in 2002, he founded a major in biomedical engineering at Central South University. Over the years, he has supervised more than 100 postdoctoral fellows, master's and doctoral students in the three disciplines of geophysics, management science and engineering, and biomedical engineering, and many students have become leaders in various fields in China.

During his tenure as the president of Central South University of Technology, He Jishan vigorously advocated the humanistic spirit, optimized the school's educational environment, greatly promoted the cross-integration of science, engineering and literature, and made the school successfully become the first batch of universities to enter the national 211 project. He Jishan has also won the "Li Siguang Teacher Award", the highest honor award for geological education, as well as the honorary titles of "National Advanced Worker in Education" and "Model of Teaching and Educating People in Hunan Province" for his contribution to education.
