A man in The Indian state of Madhya Pradesh committed suicide after a verbal altercation with the owner over the price of curry dumplings

In the Anuppur district of The Madhya Pradesh, India, a man committed suicide, allegedly as a result of harassment by police and a shopkeeper who complained about him.

According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred on July 22 in the village of Bandha in the town of Amarkantak. After an argument between him and a shopkeeper over rising commodity prices, the victim took extreme measures to end his life.

The owner, Kanchan Sahoo, asked the man to pay 20 rupees for two Indian curry dumplings (Samosa) and the man thought the price should be 15 rupees, which led to an argument between the two.

As things escalated, the owner approached the police and filed a police complaint.

The police opened a case under sections 294, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched an investigation.

As part of the investigation, police questioned the buyers of customers who had come from the fire. Onlookers put out the fire and took him to a nearby community health center. He was transferred to the district hospital where he died on 24 July.

He died of severe burns, police said.
