There may also be people who believe that Mo Yan's novel exposes the so-called "dark side" of society and deserves praise. Those who hold this viewpoint either lack understanding or have little understanding of history, or they belong to the kind of people who follow the crowd and have no independent opinions of their own.
In fact, through the creation of novels, describing the darkness and backwardness of society, Mo Yan is not a pioneer, nor is he a leader, people with a little literary knowledge know that in this regard, in modern times, Mr. Lu Xun's works are the most typical, profound, excellent, and most popular works among the masses, such as "The True Story of Ah Q", "Blessing", such as "Kong Yiji" and "Medicine".
In ancient times, the most typical representative figure in this regard was the poet Du Fu. Out of dissatisfaction with the darkness of society and concern and sympathy for the miserable life of the people, Du Fu wrote famous poems such as "Soldiers' Chariots", "Beauty Lines", "Three Officials" and "Three Farewells".
As the saying goes, "shop around", there is no harm without contrast. Comparing Mo Yan's works with the works of Mr. Lu Xun and Mr. Du Fu, he immediately made a judgment.
The Nobel Prize in Literature is not the highest or only criterion for judging the level of literary works, perhaps it has its merits or temptations, but when it awards the Nobel Prize in Literature to a novel that has problems in ideology, artistry, advancement, and science, does such an award have any other purpose than to achieve the purpose of "killing people and punishing the heart"?
