Myth: Sleeping with wet hair can trigger cancer?

Truth: Don't worry . .

Recently, it has been reported that if you "sleep with wet hair", you can allow a cancer-causing microorganism called "Malassezia" to multiply on the scalp, which in turn can spike the risk of cancer.

This is actually a misreading of a study. The original study concluded that killing these fungi in mouse cancer models would have a protective effect, and that transplanting these fungi into disease model mice would accelerate the process of cancer. Researchers suggest that these pathogenic fungi can promote the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma through a molecular mechanism.

Therefore, we can see the following problems from this: first, this is a study of pancreatic cancer in mice, and cannot be directly applied to humans; secondly, although this study mentions Malassezia, it studies the fungus's problems in the digestive tract and pancreas, and does not involve hair; finally, there is no evidence that dampness can cause a large number of Malassezia bacteria, and the number of Malassezia bacteria carried by normal people's heads is as high as tens of millions.

To sum up, the so-called "sleeping with wet hair can cause cancer" is a serious misreading of the study and is not credible. However, wet hair is more likely to become frizzy and tangled, become difficult to comb, and even break, so we still try to dry our hair before sleeping. (Source: Science Refutes Rumors)

When it's cold, the longer the car is hot, the better?

Truth: Not really. The "hot car" allows the oil and transmission oil to be in full contact with all parts of the machine, achieving a good lubrication state, thereby reducing wear. "Hot cars" also allow the car's systems to reach optimal operating temperatures, improving the car's drivability and emissions performance.

But now due to technological progress, the car design has taken into account the relevant factors, for many cars as long as the normal start and smooth driving, can achieve the ideal working state in a short time, without the need to deliberately "warm up" for a long time. For today's electric and hybrid vehicles, because they are equipped with a power battery preheating system and a thermal management system, there is no need for the driver to actively "heat up the car". Different models may be slightly different, so you can refer to the "hot car" suggestion in your car manual. (Source: Science Refutes Rumors)
