On January 23, 2024, the Ambassadors' Roundtable and Book Launch Seminar jointly organized by the Center for Globalization (CCG), World Knowledge Publishing House and Springer Nature Group was held at CCG's headquarters in Beijing. The event invited the author, ambassadors, editors, publishers, diplomats, senior scholars and business people to jointly launch and interpret the new book. A total of more than 20 ambassadors and envoys attended the press conference. The panelists discussed international cooperation, opportunities for cooperation between countries and China in the fields of global governance, economy and trade, and people-to-people exchanges, and looked ahead to bilateral relations and global trends in 2024.

In his opening speech, Cui Chun, Chairman of World Knowledge Publishing House Co., Ltd., pointed out that the publication of the Ambassador's book is very meaningful. At present, international political disputes and military conflicts have erupted at many points, the global development and security situation are complex, and major and far-reaching changes have taken place in international relations. It is of great significance for the ambassadors to grasp the general trend, focus on the right path, promote cooperation, and talk freely about how to enhance mutual understanding and understanding, and how to seek common ground while reserving differences and seeking common development. The book reflects the great importance that countries around the world attach to China, and it also reflects the world's ardent expectations for China to play a more certain and positive role in today's highly uncertain international situation. Cui Chun said that the new book will further promote the two-way flow between China and the world and share China's development opportunities.

In her welcome remarks, Miao Lu, Secretary-General of CCG and co-editor-in-chief of the China and Globalization book series, said that in this rapidly changing world, the Ambassadors' insights on global affairs and China's development are invaluable and inspiring. In order to better share these insights and perspectives and contribute to China's globalization and other pressing issues around the world, CCG has compiled key insights from ambassadors to China in these two books. It is a great honor to invite ambassadors, diplomats, heads of publishers and think tank experts who have contributed to the two books, hoping to share their views on bilateral relations, deepen the prospects of cooperation, and better tap the future potential through the release and discussion of these two books.
In the book release session, Wang Huiyao, Chairman of CCG and Editor-in-Chief of the "China and Globalization Series", gave a detailed introduction to the book. He pointed out that the Chinese version of the book "Ambassadors to China Sees the World and China" and the English version of the book "The Future of China's Development and Globalization: Views from Ambassadors to China" are a series of works of the "China and Globalization Series", which gather the insights of ambassadors to China. The voices of ambassadors are crucial, not only as representatives of their respective countries, but also as a bridge to promote mutual communication and understanding between China and the world. The publication of these two books allows readers in China and around the world to gain direct access to the perspectives and experiences of the ambassadors. These books focus not only on bilateral relations, but also on global challenges and future cooperation, reflecting the international community's views and expectations for China's development. Wang Huiyao said that CCG is committed to continuing to promote such dialogues and drawing on global voices and wisdom to promote the globalization process and strengthen China's role in this process, and jointly build a more resilient and forward-looking new era of connectivity and globalization.
In the panel discussion that followed, H.E. Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China, congratulated the publication of the two books. He believes that the world is facing many crises and that the publication of the Ambassadors book series is timely, and these articles show the insights and foresight of the ambassadors. He stressed the importance of multilateralism and proposed that the United Nations should advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) so that humanity can move forward hopefully again. Finally, he called for joint reflection and advice with the ambassador to China and China before the UN General Assembly in September 2024, and he encouraged diplomats to actively participate in the process to save multilateralism.
H.E. Jorge Toledo Albiñana, EU Ambassador to China, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming Year of the Dragon. He expressed his gratitude to the CCG for its important role as a bridge, and said that the Ambassadors' book series well reflected the views of the ambassadors and spoke highly of CCG's efforts in the process of publishing the books. He pointed out that the EU and China have been very busy in 2023, and the two sides have carried out a lot of exchanges and mutual visits, hoping to continue to move forward and make greater progress with this momentum.
H.E. Rahmantara Mohammed Osman, Ambassador of the African Union to China Rahamtalla Mohamed Osman stressed that despite the challenges, global governance is imperative for the survival and development of humankind. In the face of the challenges of global governance, countries should unite and work together, and emerging countries and economies need to participate in governance decision-making, and only by benefiting vulnerable groups and countries can the paradigm of true global governance be achieved.
The Belgian ambassador to China, H.E. Bruno Angelet, said that the Belgian Prime Minister visited China for the first time in the new year, and the two countries signed many agreements, which are of great significance for the further expansion of bilateral relations. 2024 is a year of change for Belgium, and we can see that there are more opportunities in the changing situation. He hopes that the new president will be able to lead his people to a more prosperous future when he takes office, and he also hopes that there will be more engagement with China and more involvement in global issues.
H.E. Hannes Hanso, Ambassador of Estonia to China, reviewed the good development history of Estonia and China, and spoke positively of the cooperation between China and Ireland on environmental protection issues. He believes that think tanks like CCG are particularly important in the current situation. The publication of these books allows the ambassador to share his views and gives a voice to countries like Estonia to hope for a better year ahead.
H.E. Thórir Ibsen, Iceland's ambassador to China, said that Iceland and China have the same goals on climate change, and the two sides can work together to control carbon emissions, develop new energy and carbon sequestration technologies, and it is feasible for companies from the two countries to introduce and transform technologies from each other. He believes that the industrial cooperation between China and Iceland can start from energy, and he believes that the two sides can open up more space for cooperation in the near future.
Mr. Parulian Silalahi, Deputy Director of the Indonesian Embassy in China, believes that China, with its huge economic size and classical philosophical wisdom, will definitely make significant contributions to human progress. Indonesia hopes to continue to join hands with China in 2024 to promote economic development, coordinate national strategies, strengthen cooperation in other fields, and promote the realization of the great goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
H.E. Hussam al-Husseini, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to China Hussam Alhusseini highly appreciated the openness of the CCG and its role as a platform. He believed that people should change their thinking and no longer deal with the reality of the world with the mentality they had before the war. Despite the challenges facing global governance, he believes that China can play an important leadership role in helping people get out of their predicament.
Mr. Alamiro Tyracener, Counsellor, Trade and Economic Counsellor, New Zealand Embassy in Beijing. Aramiro Tai Rākena said that in terms of the bilateral relationship between New Zealand and China, China has always been New Zealand's largest trading nation, and after the pandemic, the two countries have more and more people exchanges, more frequent contacts, and now more flights. China benefits from New Zealand's products and services and vice versa. New Zealand looks forward to working with all parties to promote multilateralism and strengthen cooperation, particularly trade links and cultural cooperation, to address and address climate change.
H.E. Signe Brudeset, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to China, said that he was very pleased to see the increasing personnel exchanges between Norway and China after the epidemic, and he was also very pleased to see that China has implemented a visa-free policy for some countries, so that people from these countries can enjoy more convenience in China. Finally, she pointed out that 2024 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Norway and China, and she expects that it will be a very fruitful year.
Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Pakistan in China, Mr. Bilal Mahmad Chowdhury Bilal Mahmood Chaudhary stressed that the relationship between the embassy and CCG is very close, and such an opportunity for dialogue is invaluable. He said that China's rise is a peaceful rise that can provide practical experience for other countries. He also pointed out that the bilateral cooperative relationship between China and Pakistan is promising, and both sides can play a very important role in international governance in the future.
H.E. Paolo Nascimento, Ambassador of Portugal to China Paulo Nascimiento said that the core tasks of think tanks and diplomats are to listen, to speak, to understand and to promote people-to-people exchanges. Against the backdrop of deepening global interdependence and conflicts, it is crucial to take action and avoid misunderstandings. He encouraged the general public to also participate in the process of understanding different cultures in order to promote international understanding and harmony. All countries share the same destiny, so we must work together to promote the smooth flow of communication channels, such as implementing a visa-free policy, and bridging differences through exchanges and dialogues of knowledge, ideas and cultures to achieve win-win results.
H.E. Alenka Suhadolnik, Slovenia's ambassador to China, said that the upcoming future summit in 2024 should focus on addressing key issues such as multilateralism and climate change. International human rights protection has made some progress in the global community, but the protection of women's and children's rights and interests and gender equality still need to be continuously addressed and improved. Second, global governance should continue to address climate change and biodiversity issues and promote sustainable environmental development. Peace and sustainable development are mutually reinforcing. She stressed that large and small countries should pragmatically promote a framework of equal relations between countries, that is, to build an effective framework for multilateralism. Building trust is the key to future success.
H.E. Rafael Dezcallar de Mazarredo, Ambassador of Spain to China, said that the CCG has made an outstanding contribution to promoting multilateral dialogue, making it possible to exchange and collide different points of view. He believes that such dialogue is essential for the development of China-EU relations, especially trade relations. China has developed rapidly and has rich experience in the economic and trade fields, and hopes to have a more balanced economic and trade structure between China and the EU in the future. He also mentioned China's role in resolving the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing that China, as a responsible major country, should assume more responsibility in maintaining international peace. Although there are differences in the understanding of human rights between China and the West, it is recommended to maintain an open and frank attitude when discussing human rights issues. He stressed that, despite differences, peace, human rights and sustainable development remain important directions for future cooperation.
H.E. Per Augustsson, Swedish Ambassador to China, said that the world will still face many challenges in the new year, and China and Sweden, as interconnected and interdependent countries, can seek cooperation to solve these problems in the fields of climate and environment, global health and hygiene. He believes that the government-to-government foreign policy dialogue is the top-level support, and the exchange of people-to-people visits and exchanges is equally important, and it is necessary to seize the opportunity to conduct continuous and in-depth communication and dialogue, and stressed the importance of transparency and mutual trust in promoting the deepening and expansion of bilateral relations. He pointed out that there are certain restrictions on foreign tourists traveling to China, and it is necessary to explore whether relevant policies can be relaxed in the future, or whether they can achieve more convenient mobility.
H.E. Jürg Burri, the Swiss ambassador to China, said that the relationship between China and Switzerland is stable and productive, and the two sides have many common positions on specific issues. Despite sometimes differences of opinion, Switzerland attaches great importance to its relations with China and wants to strengthen cooperation with China in important bilateral or multilateral forums and to promote interaction between the two countries at all levels. The exchange of visits between the leaders of the two countries this year shows that the two sides have established important channels for dialogue, and in the future, they can further achieve strategic and innovative dialogues in areas such as financial and trade cooperation, trilateral cooperation to support the development of developing countries, joint promotion of multilateralism, and respect for universal human rights.

CCG's Blockbuster Book: Ambassadors to China and the World
Although the pandemic has receded, the economic impact will not be completely eliminated in a short period of time. China and the World in a Changing Context: Perspectives from Ambassadors to China is the fourth in a series of books entitled "China and Globalization" edited by Dr. Wang Huiyao and Dr. Miao Lu. About the Center for Globalization (CCG)
Founded in 2008, CCG is the first Chinese think tank to obtain special consultative status with the United Nations, and the first Chinese social think tank to enter the world's top 100 social think tanks. CCG is awarded the postdoctoral research station by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and has the qualification of independent recruitment of postdoctoral fellows, and is the governing unit of the "Belt and Road" Think Tank Alliance of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee, the National Talent Theory Research Base of the Central Talent Work Coordination Group, the location of the International Talent Professional Committee of the Chinese Talent Research Association of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the founding director unit of the "American Research Think Tank Alliance" of the Ministry of Finance, the vice president unit of the China Public Relations Association, and the location of the secretariat of the "International Young Leaders Dialogue (GYLD)" project. In 2021, CCG's International Young Leaders Dialogue (GYLD) program received a reply from President Xi Jinping. Headquartered in Beijing, CCG has a number of branches and overseas representatives at home and abroad, and has more than 100 full-time think tank researchers and professionals. About the Center for Globalization Think Tank Publishing
As one of the world's top 100 think tanks and the first Chinese think tank to be granted special consultative status by the United Nations, the Center for Globalization (CCG) has set up a publishing center to strengthen the transformation of research results and the dissemination of ideas, and to develop a network of think tank experts and intellectual resources.
