The municipality of Marly and the Sarine Health Network want to develop a P+R service (P for parking, R for transfer, i.e. "park-and-ride" mode, which refers to the connection between bus travel and car transportation, which is one of the effective means to alleviate the traffic pressure in the central city. ), a new P+R multi-storey car park and a new fire station will be integrated into it.
The Marli Fire Station, which had previously been housed in the municipal building on Route 9 in Fribourg in 1972, had to find a new location to accommodate around 60 volunteer firefighters in order to continue to provide fire emergency services to Marli and the surrounding area in the future.
Last May, the competition for the design of the Marley Fire Station and the P+R multi-storey car park was launched, and 36 entries were received, with the first prize won by the architectural firm Delémont, whose construction is expected to begin in 2025.

The winning proposal places the building in the middle of the site, and the three-storey building is designed with four symmetrical inner arc concave corners, surrounded on three sides by expansive green spaces that serve as a partition between the building and the public road. To the south of the building, a large vacant lot is reserved for the operation and maneuvering of the fire station, as well as access to plots 902 and 904. The distribution of the different functions (driveway, parking lot and fire station) on the plan is clearly visible, and the three overhangs on the façade clearly indicate the different entrances and functions of the building.
The parking section consists of 3 floors above ground and 1 basement level, and people who park here can access the parking lot through two symmetrical walkways on the east and west sides of the building, which are connected to two stairwells located on either side of the building. The pedestrian walkway crosses the entire plot in a north-south direction, thus ensuring an effective connection to the southern massif.
The fire station occupies the south part of the building and has a parking lot large enough to park and operate large vehicles. Individual parking spaces at the fire station are located on both sides of the building, providing quick access to changing rooms and garages for firefighters.
