Longines luxury "land, sea and air"

author:The home of watches

Diver's watches, racing computers, and flight watches are the three popular sports watch categories, which correspond to the "sea, land and air" wearing scene in turn. Today, many manufacturers have deployed "land, sea and air" product lines, including the historic Longines watches. Let's take a look at the performance of several new products released in 2023.

Let's start with the "ocean" – the diver's watch. According to the style, Longines diver's watches can be divided into two styles: classical and modern. One of the representative works of retro style is the legendary diver, which is based on a work from the 60s of the last century, restoring the distinctive "double crown" design of the era, the upper crown is used to control the inner ring of the scale, and the lower crown is used to adjust the time, and the unique operation has left a deep impression on players. When it comes to Longines modern diver's watches, the first thing that comes to most players' minds is the Concas diving series, which is also the most popular product of the brand at present.

For a long time, Concass diver's watches have been among the best in its class. The collection has undergone several iterations, and the current model has been upgraded to a ceramic bezel, and the movement has been extended accordingly. In 2023, the brand introduced GMT for the Comas diver's watch, which maintains the same 300-meter water resistance. The watch has two decimal systems, a 12-hour hand and a 24-hour GMT hand. The outside of the dial is surrounded by Arabic numerals at 24 o'clock, the same color as the arrow of the GMT hand and the word "GMT" on the dial.

The Comas GMT diver's watch has a diameter of 41 mm and a thickness of 12.9 mm. The clasp is equipped with a fine adjustment system, a first for Longines watches. The L844.5 automatic movement oscillates at a frequency of 25200VPH and can achieve 72 hours of power reserve. Thanks to the silicon balance spring, the brand claims to be more than 10 times more anti-magnetic than the ISO 764 standard.

At the same time, Longines' recent "land" style masterpieces are also from the Concas collection. In view of the popularity of the Concas diver's watch, many players use "Concas" to refer to the Concas diver's watch. In fact, Comcas and Concas diver's watches are two different product branches, and the classic "dress watch" route taken by Comcas in the early part of history, from the case shape, hand style to the dial details, can be said to be a sister version of another famous model, All-Guard. Influenced by the popularity of sports watches in recent years, Longines relaunched the "Concas" series in 2007 and shifted its products to a sporty style.

The tachymeter is a derivative of timing and is commonly used in racing computers. The principle is that when a certain distance (usually 1KM) is known, it is derived by the formula of speed = distance / time. Also launched in 2023, the Comas Chronograph with ceramic tachymeter ring continues the tradition of the Concas range in terms of water resistance, which can be water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters.

It is housed in a 42 mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 14.3 mm. The sunray dial follows the classic 3-6-9 layout of a chronograph, with polished silver-toned hands and indexes covered in luminescent material. The calendar window is not added to the dial, and the overall look is more concise and symmetrical. Under the caseback is the Longines L898.5 chronograph movement, which is improved by the large three-hand movement with a chronograph module, with a built-in silicon balance spring, a frequency of 28800VPH, and a theoretical dynamic reserve of 59 hours.

Finally, let's take a look at the "air" style watch. Historically, Longines has been a master of timekeeping, and as early as 1936 he developed the famous 13ZN flyback chronograph movement. Now, Longines brings this time-honored technology to the Spirit Pioneer series, which has attracted much attention in recent years.

The Forerunner series is positioned as a flying style, and since its launch in 2020, materials, colors and functions have been continuously improved. The latest flyback chronograph, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 17 mm, is undoubtedly a remarkable dimension. And this goes hand in hand with the movement it carries: the L791.4 flyback chronograph calibre was created exclusively for Longines by ETA and is certified by the COSC chronometer in Switzerland. The movement features a blued steel column wheel, a weight-free fine-tuning balance, a built-in silicon balance spring, a frequency of 25200VPH, and a 68-hour power reserve. The movement bridges are polished with extensive pearl finishing, while the oscillating weight is engraved with the collection's iconic globe motif and the inscription "FLYBACK".

For conventional chronograph movements, the "on, pause" operation is performed with the 2 o'clock pusher, and then the 4 o'clock pusher is pressed to reset to zero. On the other hand, the flyback chronograph movement can be reset by pressing the 4 o'clock pusher directly after the chronograph is turned on, making the operation steps simpler. This is the first time that modern Longines has added a flyback function after many years, which is of great significance to the brand.

The three "Land, Sea and Air" watches are the brand's most recent staples, with their own features in terms of appearance and function: the Comas GMT diver's watch, which is water-resistant to 300 meters, adds GMT function for the first time, and improves the clasp fine-tuning system. The Concas chronograph is available in popular colors including "Salmon", "Panda Noodles" and more. Positioned in the air-like style, the Forerunner Flyback Chronograph is powered by the COSC-certified L791.4 calibre, one of Longines' most luxurious creations to date.
