On August 5, the 2021 G20 Digital Ministers' Meeting was held in a combination of online and offline. The theme of the conference was Digitalization for a Resilient, Robust, Sustainable and Inclusive Recovery. Xiao Yaqing, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, led a delegation to attend the meeting and made a speech by video.
Xiao Yaqing said that President Xi Jinping stressed that the digital transformation of the world economy is the trend of the times, and the new industrial revolution will profoundly reshape human society. The Chinese government has taken a series of measures to promote the deep integration of digital technology and the real economy, and actively promote the digitization, networking and intelligence of the manufacturing industry. We continue to accelerate the construction of new digital infrastructure, consolidate the foundation of digital economy development, continuously promote the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, promote the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure, vigorously promote digital industrialization, enhance new momentum for economic development, and effectively strengthen the governance of the digital economy and create a good development ecology. There are many development opportunities in this field, with great development potential and bright development prospects, and it will surely become a new engine for economic development.
Xiao Yaqing pointed out that the digital divide is an important obstacle for the vast number of developing countries to enhance their independent development capabilities. In recent years, the Chinese government has vigorously promoted the construction of digital infrastructure, continuously improved network capabilities, released inclusive effects, promoted information "barrier-free", and promoted inclusive development. China's important initiatives such as jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and a community of shared future in cyberspace have provided public goods for the inclusive development of the global digital economy and contributed to China's solutions.
Xiao Yaqing stressed that we have always advocated that technological development should serve the common progress of all mankind, should not politicize technological issues, and encourage the creation of an open, fair and non-discriminatory digital economic environment. We are willing to work with the competent authorities of G20 members to strengthen communication and exchanges, enhance understanding and mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation on topics such as digital transformation, smart cities, data mobility, connectivity, and artificial intelligence, so as to jointly promote the high-quality development of the digital economy and jointly promote the strong recovery of the world economy.
The meeting was co-chaired by Giancarlo Giorgheti, Minister of Economic Development of Italy for the G20 presidency for 2021, and Vittorio Corao, Minister of Technological Innovation and Digital Transformation, and attended by G20 members and ministerial officials of the competent authorities of the guest countries and high-level representatives of international organizations. The conference adopted the G20 Digital Ministerial Declaration.
