From 1941 to 1949, he served for the first eight consecutive years, and he was so tired that his eyes were bleeding, and he never made a request to the state

Zhang Yanshi, a native of Lihong Village, Brick Town, Yinan Province, was born in 1928. In 1941, Zhang Yanshi was only thirteen years old. Because his family was poor, he did the family's farm work from a very young age, and in the eyes of the villagers, he was a big laborer.

The district called on migrant workers to repair the weir, and he also signed up, and he hit the blast hole on the construction site. Zhang Yanshi said that he was still a child at that time, and he was not comfortable with the drill, because his hand was not smooth, and he was almost smashed by a sledgehammer.

Once, when the blast hole was about to hit the end, the drill showed a little tip, he moved the drill with his hand and slowed down, the sledgehammer wheel down, smashed off, the hammer head smashed until the drill slipped, and wiped it off the back of his hand, and wiped off a piece of skin on the back of his hand, and the blood was immediately dripping. The workers wanted to accompany him to bandage, but he didn't let him accompany him, so he covered his hands and went to Xuezhuang to find a pharmacy to wrap up, but he didn't even return home, and rushed back to the construction site to continue working.

The experience of bringing blood was not limited to this time, but what impressed him the most was the experience of going to the Eastern Capital to deliver public grain.

The winter of the year the devil surrendered, before the lunar calendar. The district urgently recruited migrant workers to deliver public grain to the eastern capital. This year, he was 17 years old. Zhang Yanshi said that he had grown up at the age of 17, tall and powerful. After receiving the task of delivering public grain, he and 16 young and middle-aged laborers from a neighboring village, two of them and a wooden wheeled cart, formed eight carts.

The public grain is the wheat collected in the district, concentrated in Dawangjiazhuang, packed with 32 pockets, one bag is more than 100 catties, a total of 4,000 catties, eight carts, one cart 500 catties.

The order of the district was to send it to the eastern capital in two days. When he walked from home, Zhang Yanshi pinned a gourd scoop tied to a pair of chopsticks in his waist and left home. This scoop of his has followed him many times to become a monk.

On this day, Zhang Yanshi and fifteen other people set off from Dawangjiazhuang early in the morning. Two people took a car, pulled and pushed, and took turns pushing and rushing. Zhang Yanshi is in a car with a family and four masters in this village. After passing through the old roads such as Qingtuo, Duozhuang, and Huangcaoguan, crossing mountains and mountains, and climbing cliffs in ditches, Zhang Yanshi only felt that his legs were getting heavier and heavier as if they were filled with lead. A total of more than 150 miles of road, when I arrived at the Dongguan of Mengyin City, it was already late at night.

In the east of Mengyin City, they stopped in a carriage shop. When he put down the car and went to the shophouse, Zhang Yanshi's two legs couldn't move, and the steps of the shophouse just couldn't go up. The fourth old man saw that he was really tired, so he said, this child, the size is full, not yet strong, poor child, I will help you, carry your legs into the house.

The fourth master and a few people lifted him up, put him into the house, and let him lie on the bunk. The fourth master brought him food, but Zhang Yanshi couldn't eat it. He took out the ladle and had someone pour some water for him, and after drinking a little water, he lay down again. He didn't even have the strength to shake his head, closed his eyelids and fell asleep "like dead".

Early the next morning, I had to eat again and hurried away. He lay on the bunk, without any strength. The fourth master came over and said, you get up and eat some bread, and after eating, we have to push the cart and hurry. Zhang Yanshi reluctantly got up, but he couldn't open his eyes and didn't want to eat at all. It was only then that people found that Zhang Yanshi's eyes were bleeding outward, and there were already two blood clots under his eyes. The fourth master said that this kid was so tired that his eyes were bleeding! Everyone wanted him to stay and rest. However, Zhang Yanshi disagreed, he said, I have a car with the fourth master, and he is too tired to push the cart alone.

When the convoy re-entered the road, Zhang Yanshi, who had not eaten two meals, endured weakness and still pulled the car for the fourth master. On this day, they walked from Mengyin City to the Eastern Capital, and delivered the public grain to their destination on time.

Because Zhang Yanshi was weak, Zhang Yanshi and the fourth master lived in Dongdu for a day and rested for a night.

The next day, Zhang Yanshi felt a little more strength in his body, so he asked the fourth master to go back. When they went back, their convoy did not go back together because some people were carrying charcoal back by the way, Zhang Yanshi and the fourth master did not push the charcoal, and the two of them walked all the way. When I walked from the eastern capital to Mengyin City, it was already dark.

If he almost lost his life in Mengyin City when he came to the road, this experience in Mengyin City this night moved Zhang Yanshi for a lifetime.

The day the grandfather and son walked to Mengyin City was the big gathering of the Mengyin New Year. They wanted to find a shop to stay in Dongguan of Mengyin City, but the store seemed to be full of merchants doing business. There were two inns in succession, and when the shopkeeper saw the two peasants pushing the cart, they closed. There was no way, so the two of them sat down on the street to rest, and found some firewood and grass to light to keep warm.

At that moment, the door of a house across the street opened, and a young woman came out. The woman asked them, "Are you looking for a place to stay, or are you going to keep going?"

Zhang Yanshi said, sister-in-law, we are migrant workers in Yishui, and we sent public grain to Dongdu and went home. It's late, I can't stay in the store, and I'm worried about living on the street.

The woman said, "It's cold, how can you stay on the street all night, and you don't have a quilt with you?"

The two of them said, we have met a good person, let's stay in your pot house for one night. So he pushed the cart and went into her yard.

When I entered the courtyard, I saw that her house was a shop, and some traders who sold seafood had put the wagons in a yard, and the east and west houses were full of customers.

The woman beckoned to her man and said, "There are two people from Dongxiang who have come to Dongdu to deliver public grain, and I will let them live in our house, and make room for them quickly, but they don't bring quilts."

The man went to the east house and told the two guests to change their bunks, and let the two guests live in the house with their own bunks.

The bed was made, and the hostess came over to ask if it was time to eat, and Zhang Yanshi and the two said that they hadn't eaten yet. The hostess turned around and went to cook in the pot house. After a while, two bowls of mixed noodles were served. The hostess said, "It's cold, so you can eat a bowl of hot noodles." She pointed to Zhang Yanshi and said, I think this little brother looks like he has a cold, his face is yellow, and he may be fine if he drinks a bowl of hot noodles.

Zhang Yanshi ate mixed noodles and was moved to tears.

I ate mixed noodles and slept warmly all night. When he got up the next day, the fourth master sent Zhang Yanshi to take some money to reward others, but the family resolutely refused. They said, "You have brought food to you, but it is too late for you to live." Everyone has a problem, and we're here to help you.

When he left the family, Zhang Yanshi was moved to tears again.

Zhang Yanshi is an old migrant worker, and the experience of delivering public grain to Dongdu this time is just one of the eight years of migrant worker experience he has had from leaving his husband at the age of 13 to returning home at the age of 21.

Zhang Yanshi treasured a scoop in the old capital, and a pair of chopsticks were tied to the scoop. This scoop has followed him on the road of migrant workers for eight years.

The old man said that since he was thirteen years old and became a migrant worker, he carried this scoop with him. The scoop can be used as a bowl to eat, it can be used as a bowl to drink water, and the key thing is that the scoop is pinned to the waist, which is lightweight, does not sound, and can withstand bumps. A pair of chopsticks are tied to it, pinned to the waist, and it is easy to use when eating.

In the year when the devil surrendered, he once followed the Eighth Route Army troops to carry the burden and stretcher. He has experienced battles such as attacking Li Tanggang's Baishabu Waizi, liberating Linyi City, attacking Wang Hongjiu's Li family house, and Meng family house Weizi. After that, he followed the troops and fought Laiwu City and Jinan City.

The old man said that the scoop had saved his life.

When the Kuomintang attacked in 1947, he returned home as a migrant worker from Zichuan. When he walked to the village of Guzhuang in the north of the Wenhe River, he met two Kuomintang plainclothes investigators on the road outside the village. When the two Kuomintang soldiers met him, they immediately raised their guns and looked at him. When he saw a scoop pinned to his waist, he immediately relaxed his vigilance, put away his gun and left.

When I came back, I heard from the people in the village that the east of the Yihe River was full of Kuomintang soldiers, and they sent plainclothes to Hexi to reconnoitre, and when they encountered people from the Communist troops or cadres in the district, they either grabbed and escorted them to Hedong or shot them on the spot. Fortunately, you have a scoop pinned to your waist, and they think that you are a fleeing common man, and there is no suspicion. If they know that you are a migrant worker who is sent to the PLA, it is very dangerous.

After conquering Jinan, Zhang Yanshi followed the Eight Verticals all the way south, from Zaozhuang in Shandong to Nianzhuang in Jiangsu, and from Jiangsu to Chenguanzhuang in Henan...... Pushing grain and carrying stretchers, in the wind, frost, rain, snow, mud and water, there were several shells that almost fell on the head, and the bullets grazed the ends of the hair. The old man Zhang Yanshi said, at this time, I was full of energy, and I was tired of walking more than 100 miles a day, and I dared to go even if I walked to the edge of the sky. After the victory of the Huaihai Campaign, a meeting of former migrant workers was held in Zou County, and he was issued with a demobilization certificate and a merit certificate, and he went home.

After returning home, he worked as an old farmer for the rest of his life. Lihong Village is on the bank of a large river, and it is often flooded. One year, when there was a flood, his demobilization certificate, merit certificate and all his belongings were washed away by the flood. The only thing left was the gourd scoop he cherished, and when the water was heavy, he proudly pinned the scoop to his waist as he did every time he traveled away from home.

The past is vivid, and the scoop has always accompanied the elderly. Over the years, the old man has not made any demands on the government. He said, compared to the comrades who sacrificed, I am very blessed!

The history of the Republic will always remember grassroots heroes like Zhang Yanshi. Their experience of being born and dying in the wind and rain, showing their youth and enthusiasm, soaked in blood and sweat, has brightened the night like a shining meteor, and has become the immortal memory of our nation.
