O-level examinations
1
Is the O-level exam suitable for Chinese children and how difficult is it?
For junior high school graduates and high school students in mainland China, the compulsory Chinese language is a piece of cake, which is only equivalent to the difficulty of the first year of junior high school in China.
However, elementary mathematics is relatively challenging, and its difficulty is comparable to that of junior high school or senior one mathematics in China.
But the real test is that students must use English to solve math papers, which undoubtedly puts higher demands on students' English listening and writing skills.
The O-Level exam places more emphasis on students' English skills, especially in listening and writing.
The English test consists of three parts: oral, listening and written:
Oral examination: Candidates are required to read an essay aloud and discuss it with pictures. The invigilator will ask questions based on the pictures, and candidates will be asked to answer the relevant questions.
Listening: Test takers are asked to choose or write down the correct answer based on what they hear.
Written test: Consists of two essays and three reading comprehensions.
The Physics and Chemistry exams consist of two parts: a lab and a written test:
Experiment: Candidates are required to perform experimental operations.
Written test: The difficulty is roughly equivalent to the difficulty of the domestic secondary school examination paper, but the test language is English, and candidates need to answer in English.

What universities in other countries can I apply to for the O-level examination?
With O-level results, candidates usually have a variety of options, such as entry into a junior college, a government polytechnic, a quality private school, or an overseas university preparatory session/international year.
With Singapore O-Level results, students can apply to top universities in many countries, including prestigious universities in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada. Whether it is the top 200 universities in the United States, the top eight universities in Australia, or the top 30 universities in the United Kingdom, O-level scores can be used as a strong proof of application to help students lock in the admission qualification of their ideal university in advance!
It is important to note that junior colleges in Singapore are highly competitive, and only the top 20% of students are admitted to it.
For candidates with slightly inferior grades, it may be a wiser choice to choose the overseas world famous university preparatory department/international year.
Through this pathway, they can directly enter the undergraduate program and become a member of the world's top universities. This is undoubtedly a shortcut to the world's top universities!

What should I do if I don't do well in the O-level exam?
The Singapore O-Level is valid for two years, and students can choose to put together the results of the two years as the final exam result.

How do O-Level students choose a preparatory school?
For students who plan to sit for the O-Level exam in Singapore, choosing the right prep school is key.
Especially for students who want to study science, physics and chemistry are compulsory subjects.
Both exams have a strong focus on practical skills, so it is crucial to ensure that the school offers physics and chemistry laboratories when choosing a preparatory school.
Such laboratory facilities can provide students with hands-on opportunities to better understand and master these subjects and be fully prepared for future exams.
