Shen Xiangfu was born in Beijing in 1957 to an ordinary working-class family. Since he was a child, he has shown outstanding talent in football, and when he was in Junior High School in Beijing No. 8 Middle School, he was already the captain of the school football team. In 1971, Shen Xiangfu was selected to enter the Amateur Sports School in Xicheng District, Beijing, and began to receive professional football training.
In 1973, Shen Xiangfu was selected for the Beijing Middle School Students Representative Team and went with the team to Changchun to participate in the National Football Tournament for Middle School Students held there. In the end, the Beijing team won the third place in this tournament (tied with hubei team). In the same year, Shen Xiangfu was recruited into the Beijing youth team.
At the end of 1974, in order to prepare for the following year's Three Games, Shen Xiangfu was promoted to the Beijing first team.
In the 1975 Three Games football match, the Beijing team advanced from the preliminary round of the Shanghai Division to the second place in the group. Entering the final stage, Beijing team was in the same group with Guangxi and Hubei in the group stage, winning Guangxi 4-0 and Hubei 3-0, and Beijing easily advanced to the top eight with two consecutive wins.
In the second stage, the top eight teams continued to be divided into two groups for a single cycle, while Beijing was divided into three teams from Guangdong, Hebei and Hubei. At this stage, the Beijing team continued to soar, winning all three games to enter the top four.
In the semi-finals, Beijing team met Liaoning team, and the result was 1-3 defeat, missing the final. In 1977, at the age of 20, Shen Xiangfu was called up for the national team and accompanied the team on a trip to North Korea. Subsequently, Zeng Xuelin took over as the head coach of the national team, and Shen Xiangfu was also selected for the national team roster under Zeng Xuelin many times, and participated in the 1983 Olympic Qualifiers and the 1984 Asian Cup Qualifiers with the team, but in the end, he failed to enter the asian Cup finals and also missed the following World Cup.
In 1986, Nian Weisi returned to the national team, and Shen Xiangfu was re-recruited to the team, and followed the national team to the 10th Asian Games held in Busan, South Korea. In the group stage, the Chinese team won 2 and lost 1 to advance to the quarterfinals, and in the quarter-finals, the Chinese team faced Kuwait. The two sides drew 1-1 in regular time, and Shen Xiangfu came off the bench in the 70th minute of the second half. Both teams failed to score in extra time and could only decide through a brutal penalty shootout. In the end, although Mai Chao, Liu Haiguang, Shen Xiangfu and Ma Lin all hit penalties, it was a pity that Zhu Bo, the third appearance, was saved by the Kuwaiti goalkeeper, and the Chinese team stopped in the quarterfinals. In 1995, Shen Xiangfu returned to China to join the coaching staff of the Beijing Guoan team as an assistant coach.
Since then, Shen Xiangfu has served as the head coach of many teams such as Beijing Guoan, Guoqing, Guo'ao, Guangzhou Pharmaceutical, Changchun Yatai, Wuhan, Henan Jianye and Tianjin TH.
