Recently, the microecological diagnosis and treatment center ward of the Second People's Hospital of Wuxi City (Affiliated Central Hospital of Jiangnan University) has attracted the attention of reporters, which mainly treats diseases by transplanting microflora to improve intestinal health, which is the first "multi-site compound transplantation" diagnosis and treatment center in the province that integrates intestinal and bladder and vaginal microecological transplantation.
The patient, Chen Hong (pseudonym), has been suffering from recurrent urinary tract infections for more than 20 years, and has been suffering from attacks almost every week, and has never found a good cure. She underwent a gut microbiota diagnosis with a try-and-see mentality. According to her microbiota structure, the experts of the center judged that her intestinal flora structure was out of balance, so she was treated with a precisely matched intestinal microbiota transplant. Unexpectedly, the urinary tract infection that had plagued her for many years had not happened for three consecutive years.
The patient, Wang Le (pseudonym), is a patient with pancreatic cancer who has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy surgery, and due to severe adverse reactions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the patient needs to have bowel movements seven or eight times a day, and the stool is watery. At the same time, patients also have a decrease in appetite and often do not eat half a bowl of rice throughout the day. Seeing that the patient's life was in danger, the family hoped that the hospital would do everything possible to save her life, so the center used an intestinal microbiota transplant for her. On the second day after the transplant, the patient's diarrhea frequency decreased to two or three times, and at the same time, his appetite increased greatly, and after half a month, he was able to eat half a bowl of rice at each meal, and his weight gradually returned to normal. The patients themselves and their families are not very grateful to the hospital.
Professor Liu Fengping, the discipline leader of the Microecology Diagnosis and Treatment Center of the Second People's Hospital of Wuxi City (Affiliated Central Hospital of Jiangnan University), introduced that there are a large number of bacteria, viruses and parasites on the body surface and cavity of the human body, and these organisms are collectively referred to as human microecology. As long as the "good" microorganisms and the "bad" microorganisms are in a state of equilibrium, that is, the microorganisms in the population maintain a balanced relationship of mutual growth and restraint, the human body can maintain health. Once this balance is out of balance, various diseases will appear in the human body. In addition, aging, environmental changes, and the pressure of work and life will lead to microecological disorders in the human body, and diseases will follow after the disorders occur. However, modern medical methods such as microbiota transplantation can adjust the disorder of the human microbiota and can treat a variety of diseases caused by dysbiosis.
Professor Liu explained that microbiota transplantation refers to the collection and extraction of microorganisms from healthy human cavities under sterile conditions using various instruments, and then transplanted to the corresponding body cavity of patients. At present, the most common microbiota transplant is intestinal microbiota transplantation. Healthy donors and bacteria extraction are essential for good results in microbiota transplantation. After nearly five years of scientific research and clinical practice, the center has formulated a set of strict quality control standards and developed a supporting special bacterium extractor, which effectively improves the cure rate and reduces adverse reactions.
At present, not only intestinal microbiota transplantation is carried out, but also bladder and vaginal microbiota transplantation, such as the center has successfully performed bladder and vaginal microbiota transplantation for diseases such as interstitial cystitis and vaginitis. For patients with urinary tract infections, culture omics experiments can be carried out. Accurate diagnosis of bladder pathogens is followed by targeted bladder microbiota transplantation and/or single-bacteria transplantation. For patients with intestinal flora disorders, the center can carry out precision matching transplantation, that is, according to the patient's bacterial type, disease history and drug history, N donors are selected for cross-matching, which can not only promote the short-term curative effect, but also prolong the long-term curative effect by promoting bacterial colonization.
Professor Liu said that as the province's first multi-body cavity compound microecological diagnosis and treatment center and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China's basic medical research innovation center, the center now integrates clinical and research, diagnosis and treatment, and provides patients with individualized diagnosis and treatment plans.
